i agree using the front fogs with standard halogen bulbs is daft but replacing the bulbs with leds and using them as drl's is acceptable..
as you know its not a legal requirement to have front fogs in the UK so if you have them why not utilize them as drl's, cant be a bad thing , can it?.. ... - .- -.

And most of the "dazzling" (yes Audi/Citreon!) DRLs fitted to newer cars are often at the same height as fog lights on a FFRR.

I completely agree with you about driving with proper fog lights or driving lights on when not foggy or with oncoming traffic. Thumbs Up

FWIW, not had a single "flash" from other drivers since fitting front and back. Fact is they'll get the full force of the main beams and rear fogs if they do Twisted Evil .

Depends if people coming toward you are saying to their passenger look at that c Censored k !!!!! We have remapped a lot of cars for the local police (so many that we are now in talks with the Chief Constable about actually remapping the forces own cars) and as most are traffic the talk comes to modified cars and legality, I would say a lot of them have a distinct 'opinion' on illegal use of fog's, now wether you like it or not Joes mod is a fog light, just with a diff bulb. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

I see what you are saying.

Its all about their position, rather than whats in them.

Distance from road etc.

Lights in the bumper area would be "exempt" from this as they are only used when there is low visibility.

The fact a light is now in that area and used "normally" is the issue.

Its purely about the regs, not how bright they are. Just the positioning. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

i had my 'mod' for 2 years and never ever got stopped by the police here or abroad....i think we have to agree that driving during the day with leds or halogens in the fogs is a good thing because of the 'i can see you coming ' aspect but the fogs/drl's must switch off when the headlights are on..
case closed , lets go watch man united on telly.. ... - .- -.

also something to do with beam pattern apparentely, if the mod is to be seen I don't see why you would not drive on dipped beam, same as most bikes. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

positioning is irrelevant, the fiat 500 has drl's below the bumper and they look like fogs, the porche has very bright strips below the bumper and there are loads of others... ... - .- -.

I'm not saying its a bad thing Stan, I like the idea. Helps you be seen, and by God, sometimes a FFRR can be very invisible to some drivers.

Its just that technically, on paper, the position of the lights would be the issue.

Not whether they dazzle or anything.

Plod wouldn't bother I'd imagine, unless you dazzled others, which the LED DRL mod doesn't. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Sorry to double post but found this about DRL law on of all places Halfords site:

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS REGULATIONS

New cars must be fitted with DRLs to comply with the daytime running lights law. However, many drivers have been fitting them to older cars to take advantage of their benefits. If you're going to do this, follow these simple guidelines:

DRLs are connected so that they come on with your ignition and switch off when the vehicle’s lighting is switched on, unless they have a night styling function which reduces the light output for night time driving.

So I'm alright Jack Twisted Evil .

Ah, you posted whilst I was typing.

Agree with you there.

Maybe there has been some recent changes to regs or something, 'cos there seems to be a few cars now with very bright LED's positioned very low.

Who knows...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Am I right in thinking that the DRLs on a RR are just the side lights? One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
