Makes sense. What did you use to remove the side flanges? Did you just cut them flush to the battery body with a hacksaw??

Yes, I just made sure I didn't cut into the body of the battery itself and all looked good.

Even once you do this, and try it in the space, you'll still be convinced that it won't fit because of the explosive fuse, but it will go in, it's just a matter of the angle! It definitely helped to remove the earth strap from the car because it always seems to fall back into the space where the battery goes. Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Thanks all for the advice / encouragement from recent contributors.

I took the plunge this morning and had a go myself. I cut the side flanges off as advised and followed the proceedures detailed elsewhere in this thread.

Job done. A tight fit, but probably took me no more than half an hour.

Now when the cold spellls hit again I can use my FBH with no worries!!

I too have fitted a 110ah Bosch s5 today and can confirm it will fit, I managed it on my own but it would have been easier with another person lifting the scuttle panel slightly, it was there where I feel gained the most space, it can be done! (But it's nt gonna be done by me again in a hurry I can tell you!) 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I too fitted an S5 110 Bosch. Easiest way I found was to gaffa tape the thermal insulation down , mine was coming adrift when lowering the battery and then I stuck a 7 foot steel bar through the carrying handles, enlisted the help of an unwitting neighbour him stood at the drivers side and me feeding the battery in, the benefit being you can rest the bar on your shoulder while you "faff" with the cables , insulation etc. I found it much easier than trying to hold the weight alone and move cables at the same time ..just my 2 cents !! ...Always time for a brew !!

^^^^ +1 on 110A battery. Did it myself with a struggle (like wall mounting the old (heavy) plasma TVs can be done but not easy/healthy Shocked )

Like others have said, things seem to function better.....locks snap open and shut, steering wheel and seat zip into position like never before. No HDC inactive bong. And of course, the main event, FBH, can be used without fear or trepidation. Worth it. 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

had the Bosch S5 110Ah 920 fitted last week........ and it lasted all of 5 days, dead , flat Sad

having new alternator fitted today £800 Sad best getting 12.6 on idle would not go above 13 on 3000 revs so no charge to the S5

Cutting the flanges at both ends of the battery, also made it possible to fit the S5 to my LHD 07 with pyrotechnic charge (the box on the pos cable).

A more tight fit than preferred, but it sits there now...(with both clamps in place holding the battery).

Reading this topic (after my first go....) saved me a lot of anger management consultation. Thumbs Up

I got my Bosch S5 020 from Euro Car Parts, with 25% off courtesy of the MBCLUB25 discount code and 5litres free screenwash.

I had prepared myself for some scraped knuckles and profanity but I am pleased to report that neither occurred.

I have to admit that when I got the old LR battery out and compared it to the new Bosch battery I thought this is going to be fun. When I first offered up the new battery my heart sunk and I thought this is never going to fit, but patience and perseverance prevailed!

My top tips to add to the very helpful advice already provided are:
-Make sure you have a beautiful assistant (I used my wife Thumbs Up )
-Read up on battery disconnection procedure & fitting new battery using WIKI
-Watch the helpful YouTube Video on removing an L322 battery from PowerfulUK
-Definitely put the bonnet into full access mode & use a small step to gain a little more height
-Remove the insulation from the battery compartment before you put the new battery in as it just snags on the battery and you cannot get the battery in the right position. It was easy enough to put the insulation back once the battery was fitted
-Get your assistant to keep all of the leads out of the way when putting the battery into the tray
-Use a crowbar to move the battery as far right as it will go. I thought I had it as far right as possible by hand but managed at least another centimetre with the crowbar
-The crowbar is also useful pushing the battery back in the battery tray, giving better access for the clamp bolts
-I made sure the positive lead and pyrotechnic charge were in place before moving onto the negative lead

Hopefully that will be the end of my battery woes for a few years!
