Wifes 2008 FFRR SC purchased used still under warranty but 3 hours to nearest dealer. Probably needs new
brake pads which I believe I can do. Does this affect warranty? Any other issues with changing myself?? Thx!! Mike

I would not have thought so - Brake Pads and other brake friction items are never usually covered under warranties over here as they are considered wear and tear parts of the car - like tyres, clutches etc.

If your brakes pads have simply worn low then there should not be a problem in having a go yourself if you really think that you are capable and you know your way around basic tools.

However - I would recommend that you change the discs at the same time - just to ensure that you have the best possible contact between brake shoe and brake disc (it could take a good few hundred kilometers before new pads match up to the existing discs)

Also remember that you may need the rear park brake shoes (which fit inside the hub of the rear discs) though this is not always the case and you could still have plenty of life left on them.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT RELY UPON THE JACK TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE - THEY ARE CRAP! - ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS SUPPORTED CORRECTLY BEFORE DOING ANY MAINTENANCE UNDERNEATH IT . . . . ALWAYS!!!

Some of the longer serving FULLFAT members will probably be able to point you in the right direction for exact instructions of how to do them yourself (with diagrams possibly) - They know this forum site like the back of their hands.

Finally - although I have fitted aftermarket parts to my own car - I think from now on I will only use Genuine Land Rover parts as the quality is just that bit better & especially with them big brembos on the front corners.

I had fitted pattern brake parts on the TD6 and they were crap. I ended up swapping to genuines fairly soon afterwards.

Cheaper brake discs will warp easier, squeal more and cause premature pad wear. Cheap pads glaze and vibrate and of course, don't stop as well!

Buy genuine parts from the web and if you can fit yourself, great. If not, take it to a brake specialist, they don't need to be RR people. With a SC, its important the car stops!

Don't forget to buy the brake pad sensors too, one on each axle (about $20 each)

None of this will affect warranty. Discovery 4 HSE

blimey, 20k miles, what you do drive with your footbrake on . You should be getting 2 sets of pads to 1 set of discs front and rear.

My front discs lasted about 40k miles if my memory isn't too bad and this vehicle is used for towing and off road, and I am really heavy with the brakes. Rear discs lasted 50k miles. Both sets of discs were replaced with the 2nd set of pads.

Best to replace I would suggest. The cost is not that much really (in the UK anyway) and for peace of mind etc. Discovery 4 HSE

Can the brake warning light be reset by me having repplaced the pads or is it a proffit oppertunity for the steeler? letters not necessarily in the right order
