Ive searched the forum and seen the same sort of question but i wanted to sound out my theroy

Had the top hose blow off on the input into the engine, the factory metal ring clamp still in place ubt the endge of the plastic ribbing looked worm and ruff on the last edge

Now i managed to convince the AA bloke who come out to me to bodge the pipe back on with a jublie kit, just my luck i got the AA guy who had worked for them for 5days and waned to do everything by the book

Anyway he got me a clip, presure test the expansion cap, pressure test the cooling system and everything was holding.

He then got his diagnostics kit out and stated the temp rised to quick and the car was sitting at 103c, i told him that wat was stated as normal running temp but he sh*t a brick and said it was AA policy to get it recovered home.

Well i drove it home and the needle stayed dead centre and didnt move, also i run the Intravee diagnostics on my screen and monitored the temp the car sat at 228-233F which seems a little high however it drove home lovely.

Ive decided to replace the pipe and thermo with housing and sensor which ill be doing this week

Is this a common issues with RR?? its done 65000 miles it seems the pipe and thermo go alot but i just wantd ur thoughts on the above

I had exactly the same problem with mine - that pipe blew off - happened to me a few weeks after the expansion tank cracked. Just replaced the pipe assembly and all has been good since (20,000 miles). I think the plastic for the pipe connector is the same stuff as the expansion tank, so it made sense (to me) that they should both fail at about the same time.

Temperature sounds bang on right.

I'm also gonna do the water pump while I'm at it to be on the safe side id rather buy and replace now than get more grief later

Ok update, ive fitted the new pipe and a new thermostat and now the car is running at 85c max

im well pleased, the electric connection on top of the old thermo had rusted out so it was mullered

I changed the pipe without removing the fan i just raised the car up and dropped the under tray plumbed in the pipe work and she was sorted, bleed the system out with my bmw bleeding trick using a 2ltr bottle of coke and its brilliant

What temperature does the coke cope with in winter  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Use the bottle to get a head of water.

Obligatory use when bleeding cars with a low expansion tank. Citroens bleed better using a lemonade bottle rather than the coke version.
