United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
MPG on Short Journeys

Got TD6 and getting average of 14.1 on computer. Mostly very short journeys. So 3 miles to work in the
morning which takes about 20-30 mins in rush hour traffic. Can get upto 25 on long journeys but I mostly do short journeys.

Someone said that for shorter journeys petrol won't be much different as diesel takes longer to warm up so your not really getting the benefit of it.

Would love a petrol but don't want even worse MPG!

petrol for the short journeys definately,am getting about same,13 ish mpg going on short trips with my 4.4 m62.

the big bonus with this engine is on cold days the heater is blowing warm air in no time.my diesel car would still be ice cold as the diesel takes ages to heat up,gotta love big petrol v8's Thumbs Up

Diesel for the short journeys as the FBH feature alone even on basic models should warm it up quick enough Smile

Mind you i do 5 miles a day and get above 40 for about 2 mins and mine gets just below the mid point and my viscous fan is off as well which may help!

I get about 17mpg on this kind of run going upto 28 on a run on the mways Smile
I do use timed climate but tend to get in the car 10-15mins into its cycle, just takes the edge of the chilliness in the car and doesn't drain the battery so bad Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

School run, 6 miles each way through country lanes, max 40 mph but no stationary traffic. 25ish. 3.6 TDV8.

Whereas my old Jag XJR used to do about 16 on the same run.

With a FBH fitted the warm up times are identical.

TBH for me the fact i can walk out, see the screens are clear and the inside is decently warmed in 10-15mins and start my journey knowning the engine isnt going to be stone cold as the coolant will be warmed and heat seeped into the metal work within a minute of turning over makes me happy Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

yeah the FBH is a real treat,great to just jump in and go.In fairness to the petrol,she heats up so quickly its never been an inconvenience even during the winter of 2010.If I change to diesel and It looks likely in the next year it will certainly be high on the shopping list ... Smile

Only way to heat the seats up i found out is to forget you set the timer for 0730 and actually get into the car at 0830 and find the heat has seeped into them a little Smile

Failing that plenty of beans and sprouts the night before sorts it out Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
