[SOLVED] How do I test if my Auto Dipping Mirror is working?

With a tinted rear window, headlights aren't as bright as with a normal rear window.

How do I test if my auto dipping is working? .

Are we talking about dimming or dipping ?
Is the switch on the door pushed to the left ?

Mine only seem to work when there isn't street lighting around, making me think it's something in the mirror that governs it (a bit like the auto lights).

I mean the rear view mirror (the one fixed to the windscreen).

If there is nothing more scientific than a torch, I'll try that first.... .

The photocell is the little round circle in the top center of the rear view mirror. A torch should do the trick. It should dim both wing mirrors and the rear view mirror. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Can't you override it by turning the red light at the bottom of the mirror one way? Sure that's what the manual says for manual dipping. Confused Si. <This is my name.

It works.

1. Make sure it is dark
2. Get a suitable torch
3. Jump in the car and start up
4. Put thumb/finger over the small round sensor at the middle top of the mirror
5. Turn on torch (holding in your left hand so you can see the beam reflecting in the mirror with your eyes)
6. Shine torch at mirror so you can see the beam reflection
7. Get used to the intensity
8. remove thumb from sensor
9. If working, the intensity of the beam should gradually diminish.
10. Test again to make sure Wink
11. Switch off car
12. Clean thumbprints from mirror Thumbs Up .
