Faulty heated windscreen drivers side, anyone fixed it?

I've seen several threads on this but not yet found a solution to the problem (apart from the obvious of a total screen replacement, courtesy of the insurance company plus an excess payment!).

The driver's side doesn't clear, but the passenger side does. There are suggestions of there being 2 fuses, one for each side of the screen, but I can only find the one relay, which I assume controls the whole screen, located behind the passenger side fascia. I'm guessing that because the passenger screen clears, then the relay isn't faulty.

There's also talk of poor earthing of the wires where the screen meets the bodywork (?), but I can't see how to access them.

Has anyone identified where the problem lies and actually managed to successfully fix it? Or is a replacement screen the only solution?

Any help always appreciated Wink Cheers

Greg

I would concur and suggest a new windscreen is required.

According to RAVE, there is one relay feeding 2 elements.

So it looks like you either have a faulty element, in which case a new screen will be needed, or the element on the drivers side isn't getting a feed from the relay. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Looks like the connection for the screen is behind the A pillar trim, at the top of the dash RH and LH for the respective sides ;

If its getting power, and the screen is not clearing, then I'm afraid you have your answer....... Sad 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Perhaps that side gets more wear, as the driver is always in the car looking through it Rolling with laughter 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Mine is the same. Passenger clears in no time, but nothing on my side. At least I know where the feeds are now.
By removing the A pillar trim, it's not going to disturb the airbag curtain is it? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

You can remove the a pillar trim easily the airbag logo at top prises off and then reveals torque screw behind it. Just be careful when replacing as the pillar locator on the trim can sometimes snag the airbag and the trim will not sit properly.

Hey Greg.
Did that work for you, or is it a Screen Replacement job?

Hi Dave

I'm afraid I never got as far as checking the wiring as it turns out I do need a new windscreen. It's definitely getting power on the drivers side but I've got several patches where the heated filaments work and other areas where they don't. So I'm going to have to wait until I can get a new windscreen under the insurance. Sad Cheers
