i've always filled from supermarket pumps and only once have a had a very slight judder but a dose of wynns [or similar] in the fuel tank and it hasn't happened since ,but it could be a coincidence though and the wynns had no effect... ... - .- -.

Don't be brushed aside by excuses.
Personally, I try to stay away from supermarket fuels, but if they were that bad, they wouldn't be allowed to sell the stuff.
Know your rights as a consumer - that is what will sort your problem out. I suggest you read your warranty policy carefully and look at something like "honest john" through the Daily Telegraph website - there is specific information for these issues.

I'm not going to end with "good luck" because that's not what you need - knowledge is power !

Thanks for both sets of advice i'll have to point out that the diesel advice came from the dealer I bought the car from not where the car is currently having diagnostic checks run on it.
Warranty read and swotted up on, i'm not a pushover in car dealers.
(I got banned from BMW years ago for these reasons. (another story!)

I'll keep you posted when the diagnostic garage calls me later. Reading honest Johns now

Interesting, I did think it was down to the temperature but it happened on saturday when it was a practically tropical 9 degrees. At first they couldn't find a problem (nothing came up on the diagnostic checks) so they investigated further and want the car for 3 days next week to strip the engine down. They managed to replicate the fault and a load of black smoke kicked out into the garage. So I've left them to have the conversations with the dealer who sold it to me and discuss who pays. I told them I bloody wont be, I've only had the car 13 days!

They did say more about the problem, but I'll make a fool of myself describing what they said! Either way the car is drivable, all be it occasionally kicking black smoke out and juddering. I wish I could find a link to how the 3.6 tdv8 engine worked!

So far though impressed with the dealer and their handling of this.

It was something to do with one of these, although not showing up as problematic one of them is deemed to be causing the problem;

"The cylinder heads are cast from aluminum and feature dual overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder"

I've heard of a few problems with the EGR valves on the TDV8s

I was guessing that the labour costs would be er quite high!

Egr valves replaced and car it juddering. Took them a week to do which cost me on insuring the courtesy car, fuel and diagnostics fee. but fixed.

Which dealer did it ?

Hunters Chester wasn't overly impressed but the works done and the judder is no more!

I have a similar juddering when on low throttle inputs and at low speed. Thought it might have been torque converter. Interestingly, diagnostics showed an intermittently faulty EGR valve, which was causing a greater than normal throttle lag wen pulling off from stationary.

Reading this thread though, perhaps it is the EGR valve.

Essex 4x4 (an excellent and highly recommended Indy specialist - all ex Land Rover Master Tech's) quoted me just under £500 all in to replace the faulty EGR valve.

Was going to leave it until the other one started to have problems but if it would solve the juddering, I might go ahead and get it done.
