Doors Not Locking

Hi All,

not sure if this has been covered before - Apologies if it has - but the FF threw up a strange quirk yesterday. I was picked up at the station and got into the passenger seat. Then as we drove off the interior lights did not dim nor did the doors lock (auto lock is enabled). I pressed the door lock button but there was no response. Had to manually switch off the interior lights and then drove home.

When we were all out of the car, we shut all the doors and pressed the lock button on the remote. There was a beep but no lock. Pressed unlock, beep and interior lights came on. Pressed lock again and the doors locked.

No warnings on the dash.

Any ideas? African Bush Junkie ... in London!

Latch has failed i would imagine... It does not know the door is closed hence the int lights not turning off and then wont lock an open door...

Craig Thumbs Up

Had it several times in the past and re-opening and closing the doors/tail hatch makes it go away. Annoying but that's it. Maybe since winter is approaching it is time to spray all the locks with some good quality silicone spray (silicone is hydrophobic so it drives the water out). Keeps the locks from freezing. While you are at it, put some talcum powder on all the door rubbers to prevent freezing and keep them from drying out. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Confused Wouldn't talcum powder dry them out though ?

Nope, talcum powder is the old school way of keeping your door rubbers nice and soft. My dad used to do it a few times a year (he was very much a preventive maintenance person, his cars hardly ever break down, which was impressive driving Triumph and Rover for decades Wink ) and he never had any door opening issues in the horribly wet Dutch winters. I used to wait a little too long and ended up with doors and locks being frozen shut Smile

Instead of talcum powder you can probably by some nice expensive silicone door rubber grease that will do the trick as well (at a much higher price). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
