steering column adjuster.

Hi folks.

I seem to be collecting problems at the minute!
Steering column adjustment, Up and down is fine but the problem is in and out.
I can hear the motor whirring when i use the stalk control but it doesn't actually move.
The motor sometimes whirrs when i start the car up and when switching off and key removed.
I can actually pull the steering wheel out and adjust it manualy, found this out by accident.
It appears that the motor is not engaging properly.
Anyone had this before?

Strangely the anologue clock has started resetting itself as well.
Sometimes on start up it resets itself to 12 o'clock!!!!

Thanks.

I've read through some old threads and the more common issue seems to be with the tilt mechanism.
My problem is with the in-out!!! (telescopic adjustment)
It feels as though the motor and shaft have become detached and therefore the steering wheel will not move.
Meerbusch, if you could post up some pictures and tell me about the screw you described that would be extremly helpful.

Many thanks.

I believe that the nylon white clip that holds the motor onto the spindle becomes brittle and snaps over time (this happened to mine). If you take off the panel which is the 'ceiling' to the footwell trim you should be able to see it. I fixed mine with a cable tie and it works fine! Hope this helps 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I think what Uli (Meerbusch) is referring to is the Reach Motor text on the picture. If you look directly below the t of the word motor, you see the spindle of the motor going through a black nut (or threaded block) that is slotted into the aluminium frame.

If I understand it correctly the thread of that block gets stripped out over time and although the spindle rotates, the block won't go anywhere as there is no thread to be moved. So that block should then be made from scratch ??

It would be easier if it was the white bracket and some tie-wraps for the fix of course Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Exactly, was I said, and ebajema sees, is the problem, the black nut. I have made some examples here for friends in germany, one hour work with black plastic (nylon 12mm) per piece, the official bought also one Wink), the complete steering column costs about 2.200,-euro, only changable complete Wink L405 SDV8 2017 + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021

Thank you for the email which you sent through.
Is that part available form a dealer or did you just make one up.
Is it a difficult job to change?

Thanks again.
