If you can go for the Jaguar AJV8 petrol 4.4 rather than the BMW unit as its much more reliable.

thats odd i would've thought that BMW's unit was more reliable as it was used in the e39 5 series and the e38 7 series and am i right in saying BMW 5 series electronics were used aswell.

Trust me the 2006MY+ cars with the Jag AJV8 are FAR more reliable than their BMW predecessor which has a variety of common issues that are well documented on here.

interesting so any common issues on the jag ajv8 4.4 that are likely to creep up?

My old ajv8 had a squeaking tensioner pulley and belt when cold that needed replacing. Not sure if it's common

is it worth getting a 4.2 S/C over the ajv8 4.4 ?

You will get 10-12 mpg from a supercharged nipping about but more toys

so roughly 4-5 mpg difference between the 4.4 and the S/C, and prices for a facelift 4.4 are similar to that of the 4.2 S/C, is the 4.2 S/C a reliable motor ?

Mines been good so far, a small pulley upgrade transforms it from smooth, quick and slightly docile to smooth, fast and awake. They are so quiet on long journeys, but sound like a proper car when booted.

My 2007 facelift (terrain response etc) vogue 4.4 AJ-V8 is for sale just now £15.5k ono see for sale section for info. Interior shots to be uploaded tomorrow.

at least £2-3k cheaper than a similar 2007 S/C too..

Not if you want to convert to LPG.

we are looking into either a FF 4.2s/c OR a Sport 4.2s/c, there's going to be no LPG so nothing to worry about there

only thing is i can't make my mind up as to what colour to go for, i would love black but Stornway Grey is really nice in the sport, then buckingham blue is sticking its head in

Go for the FFRR S/C is my recommendation. The FFRR feels a lot nicer inside than the SSRR, is nicer to look at (IMHO), more space inside, looks a lot less "common" (again IMHO).

I think that most FFRRs are just OK quality wise, being on the forum magnifies the problems a bit (same as a doctor or policeman have a different outlook on societies health / propensity to crime than the average citizen of a country because they are exposed to it on a daily basis ). If you have bad luck you get one with major issues but I think most of the cars out there will have few or no issues (other than normal wear and tear and maintenance).

I still love my FFRR S/C despite some nigglies (only "major" issue is failed AC but that may be due to 2 years of 0 movement, sitting parked in a tropical country). Smaller issues were the rear calipers (cheap replacement job) and the other issue seems to be quite unique, bad fuel and fouled fuel system (again due to 2 years doing nothing plus bad quality fuel).

If you take good care of the car (after getting a well maintained one) you will have a very high likelihood of having a great time. They are absolutely brilliant to drive (especially the S/C) and super comfortable. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
