2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Zermatt Silver
Help please Cant Turn Key in ignition unless battery HR

Hi guys

Have been having a intermitant fault with the RR recently thats been getting worse.

Its a 2006 Supercharged

The problem is every so often more often than not now the car electrics will all die.

No central locking, no dash lights and the key wont turn in the ignition.

If i disconnect the battery and reconnect all the electrics will come to life but sometimes i will turn the key to start and then it will make a click sound as if to start then all the electrics will die again.

The i disconnect the battery again leave for some time and try again and it works fine.

Any ideas i dont believe it to be the battery as when the system has been reset it starts first turn and there appears to be no lack of turn over speed from the battery.

bad earth or most likely it is the battery.....disconnecting and reconnecting probably gives the car a 'boost' of power letting you start it..if the battery is more than 3 years old'ish then its time to replace , especially now winter is coming.... ... - .- -.

i was told battery was replaced when i brought the car about 18 months ago just spoke to the wife and she said that no electrics work not even the interior lights when it happens. So could be dodgy connection or as you say battery.

What battery would i need for the range rover also spoke to a technician who said it could be the central junction box? Supercharged LPG!!

I would double check the tightness of the battery connections before anything else. Not just the fact the bolts are tight but that there is no movement in either terminal connection.
Disconnecting and reconnecting may just give a better battery terminal connectin.

Could also be the alternator dying, it could be draining the battery. Better get it to a good auto electrician. Also because you have been "draining" the battery a bit, it is getting damaged. Could also be a bad battery that would never have made it 3 years. Sometimes battery cells just die. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

will check all the connections tonight and have just got a price for £120 for a new battery fitted so will take it over there and get them to test the old battery before replacing it aswell. Supercharged LPG!!

Key in ignition, everything normal, switch to ignition, still normal, try to start, completely dead = bad connection on one of the main battery cables either + or ground.

If all is completely dead and then magically comes back to life with enough power to start the car - and you have not had it on a charger it is not the battery (at least not in greatest part). As Stan said, a bad ground or bad terminal connection.

As was mentioned, see an automotive electrician if you are unsure.

A good battery is never a bad idea as the L322 is sensitive to low voltage, but I hate throwing money at a problem without being 100% sure.

cheers have spoke to battery place and can get a good battery for £120 fitted apparently the eurocar parts one is not strong enough as the CCA is not high enough or something.

Will check all connections tonight when home and see what happens Supercharged LPG!!

thats what im struggling with alot of people say its the battery for everything but i dont understand if it is the battery than how would it come back to life and start the car fine??? Supercharged LPG!!
