I would not consider a CAT D until I had seen photos of the original damage. It may have been minor damage, but an insurance company did write it off. Not sure about the "don't legally have to tell you" bit.. If he said nothing but knew it had been damaged that sounds illegal to me. Anyway, hpi would hopefully flag it up.
I'm not sure about insuring it. I have been told they will only pay out once for a total loss. Not sure on this.
If the car has been checked and is sound, and it was just panel damage, then I would go in with a low offer as I think cat d will put most people off.. Car does look nice tho'..

To be honest the car looks excellent in the pics. I don't know anything of how Cat. D works (not familiar with UK rules on that) but I would say go to a good car inspection place (AA??) and do a full check. I would say it is worth the cost of the inspection. You can for example buy the car provided it passes the inspection with flying colors and if anything minor comes up, you can negotiate the price down further. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hi Guys,

That is the first thing I asked; I need pictures of the damage however said there was none, said it was repaired at a small operation bodyshop who are specialists in classic cars and that he would be happy to introduce me to the previous owner however at the end of the day its a cat D.

He said the airbags went off and the the repair included a whole new dash so diddnt skimp on the repair. Don't see this as a massive plus point, its just being repaired to a normal standard.

Also its got 4 previous owners which is an issue when I sell on

The Cat D is a bigger issue when you sell on. It's lost a lot of value now at 4 years old and will loose loads more a year or two further on

IMO it should be another 3-4k less even with the low mileage as a cat d even a year back will have paid out 30k for it -salvage so it must have had close to £20k worth of damage. That is a hell of a lot of damage! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Walk away! To many grey areas! You would never be happy with the answers you got. Had he have had photos and been to a reputable repair centre it might have got a look at but as the prev owner is a friend he will help joe blogs sell the car by making out the repair was not an issue, the garage he's had it repaired at also seems to be a friend. All seems a bit to dodgy for me. Even with a full inspection I still don't think you would be 100% satisfied. Ever bang/knock you would be thinking the wheels going to fall off. Just my 2p worth. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

The car may well be great having been repaired and look stunning however,,,,,

CAT D and five owners will make resale VERY difficult when this car has a bit more mileage on it.

If it was £17k then maybe if you were going to keep it long long term otherwise the resale factor would put me off.

thats my issues as well. the cat D and the number of owners. I think 24k is a silly price. I was thinking more 18k myself and thats if its spotless.

I agree with removing the wheels and getting an original set of 2010's and some side steps and would be perfect. I really like the colour. ill see how it goes..... at the moment its putting me off, ive got my eye on a few cars including a 300c srt8 which would be fun....

Gaz I think you had a black one for a while, how was it?

Hi RR,

After my previous TDV8 FF, i did seriously consider a 300C SW SRT8 and found a really nice one, in silver in mint condition.
I LOVE Hemis and drove my fare share in stock and heavily modified ones stateside in 2wd and 4wd and in custom made "rigs", In fact, next month, I'll be traveling for a couple weeks around the West Coast with a hemi under the hood. Thumbs Up

However, I did go back to the FF TDV8 Vogue for real life Europe use. I do not regret it a single second. (Then, on the side I am looking for a fun toy with the engine behind my back...)

Anyway, my point is stay focus on you TDV8 search, you will not regret it a single second. (and don't even get me started comparing the interior finish of the 300 and the L322...)

the SRT8 300 C SW is a good car, the FF is a Great car. Period. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

I'm not saying this is the case here as I've not looked at the ebay ad, but it is worth bearing in mind that some members of the criminal fraternity have been known to buy an insurance write off then pinch an identical car and give it the identity of the written off car and sell it on as repaired. If you are unfortunate enough to buy such a car when it is identified as stolen the car will usually be seized from you and returned to the legal owner (Usually the insurance company) It is then down to you to seek redress with whoever you bought it from - good luck with that! The best thing to do is get an independent engineer's report on any repaired vehicle and pay for the insurance to cover you.

As I said at the beginning, I'm not questioning this particular car as I've not looked at it but it has been known to happen. Buyer beware and all that.....
