Is one of the drive belts de-laminating? Sometimes the outer canvas can come away and flap. |

And if you increase the revs, the speed of the noise increases as well? Previously..

Water pumps tend to start with play in the bearing, which then knocks out the seal. Any play at the edges of the fan? |

Just checked the fan. Yes a bit of play at the fan tips but looks more like from the torquatrol unit rather than the water pump pulley. With the tension on the belt would I be able to feel play in the water pump?

Usually play in the fan in the water pump. They aren't too bad to change - allow an hour or so. Fit all new belts while you are at it - they are easy to get to when it's in bits! |

Check the belt tensioners as the bearings in them do eventually wear |

When your changing the water pump be careful when you pull it out. Tere are 2 aluminium pipes running from the pump to the back of the engine. They are only sealed with o rings. You will get new ones with the water pump. To change the ones on the back is a total T.w.a.t so make sure they don't come out! [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

And when putting the pump back on, be careful with the new o-rings that they don't get snagged by the pipes. A lube of them with something helps to prevent this. It's a to have to take it all apart afterwards for that reason. V8 or else ... |
