United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black
To change or not to change

Just to be clear, I LOVE ( L O VEE EEE LUV) my TDV8 Vogue SE. It has every toy I could want and it drives beautifully. I do a fair amount of working abroad and its always a sublime car to carry me home on the looOOOnnng journey from Heathrow.

It has taken me through France numerous times with ease, carried Guns, beaters, dogs, logs, furniture etc and still looks stunning (I have a little to do with that of course - they don't clean themselves Big Cry ).

Now, I have never kept a car past 90,000 miles, swapping them at that point in anticipation of potential problems yet to arise (just to be on the safe side you see Cool )

Anyway, I'm at 84,000, have no real need to swap and am wondering how the L405 will affect prices.

I've also matured a bit in the last few years and am less bothered about having the latest and greatest, but I do like the look of the 2010MY now.

Looking online I could get another car a little newer than mine, maybe an 08 or 58 plate for about £30K with lowish miles (up to 40K) and not have to put much in. Looking at the 2010MY 3.6 TDV8s though I'd need to add another ten grand into it and I'm wondering if it's worth it. I have looked into getting CTC to do me a facelift and basically if you add wheels to update to modern 20's you're looking at £5k to do that.

I've seen quite a few facelifted cars online and some look amazing, but is it worth £5k I am asking myself, so my quandary is as follows:

1. Keep mine as is
2. Get mine facelifted (high miles though....)
3. Get another 2008 car as is
4. Get another 2008 car and get it facelifted
5. Just get a 2010my

As you know what i previously had Adam , i got the 2010 model and have to say it got me back into liking the FFRR as i was getting a bit bored with the SC what with previously having the TD6 as well and FF's to a point …

So if i were you i would go for the 2010 , the interior is a far lot nicer , Dash , Dual View , Controls , also externally

If you get another 08 you will only kick yourself for not getting the 2010 …

Also there are some nice external conversions out there but that is mostly external …

Possibly the L405 might have a knockdown effect on the last of the L322's so maybe hang onto yours to wait and see ….. you have nothing to lose (except depreciation ) since you might be in the mood for changing

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

1 or 5 for me, anything in between just doesn't seem to make sense Shocked

When I was looking to replace my trusted 2003 FFRR 18 months ago I wanted your car..........well one the same Wink but the lure of the 2010MY was just too much and I have no regrets but like everything if you are prepared to pay just that little bit more even the 4.4 TDV8 may now be in reach. Thumbs Up

Now is the time to look as in my opinion prices on the current versions are artificially low due to huge discounts on 2012 models which filters down the ages. When the L405 launches at £80-£100 thousand without quite the same huge discounts used prices will firm up.

Seems to me that your concern over potential problems will still knaw away at you regardless of what you do with the exterior and that any changes will only buy you some time before you eventually decide to change.

So you may as well go for 5 and be done with it. As Mick says, there's so many changes on the 2010 models that you don't currently enjoy.

I also think the 4.4 will hold its value better than the 3.6. Or, put another way, I think 3.6 prices will tumble faster as the 4.4 gets older. Si. <This is my name.

A vote for 1 and 5 from me. Hang on and wait for more price drop when the new one comes out and get better value for money out of a new purchase and your current one won't lose as much as a newer model would.

It may give you just enough to get the 4.4 instead of the 3.6 as well Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Option 1 unless your car goes bang in a big way. If you plan to shell out for turbos / diffs in the next 40k you car should last for quite a few years more.

I'm in the same boat as you. I love my 2007 FFSC, but it's coming up to 90,000 miles.

I've decided to keep mine, as I've already lost a fortune on it and I have LR extended warranty FWIW. I may change to an L405 when they have been out for about a year as prices will have levelled and most of the teething problems will have been ironed out. Also, I would never buy a car without driving one first.

I dismissed the upgrade route as I can't see that it will improve the feel good factor when I'm driving it and it doesn't really fool anyone, as those who notice the difference in MY can normally spot that its a conversion. Also, save the cost of the upgrade towards any unforeseen repairs.

Mind you, if I found a nice 5.0 S/C in the right colour at the right money, I may be tempted Thumbs Up .

Hope that helps.

Having had a 2008 and now a 2011 I think I would go for option 5 and as others have said just wait a little to get the maximum value from the L405 launch. The 4.4 engine with the 8 speed box, the improved dash and more modern looks will make you wonder if you dont. The only downside other than the cost is the seats are not as comfortable as the ones you have now. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Are the seats in the MY10 even worse then?
I thought the only time they got worse was around 2006 when they upgraded the interior and downgraded the seat adjustment.
I loved those early seats. After my 06 ones the 08 I had never felt as good.

Adam,

You say you could get a 40k 2008 for just a bit more.....

If yours is coming up to 90,000 miles what are you valuing at ?

Thanks for that Gaz

I think the L405 may actually improve the sh values of L322s as there is bound to be market uncertainty over a new model and people will want the older one.

Looks like I am be keeping mine then as is and just keep a watchful eye on things Discovery 4 HSE

Probably best bet but I am afraid mileage is like a Cancer on values it just keeps eating away at it in addition to the car getting older.

In one year plus 30000mls:

Land Rover Range Rover (02 on)
3.6 TDV8 VOGUE SE 4d Auto
Choose a different version
2007/07 (2008-08 in one year)
115,000mls
Original Price £68,947
Franchised Dealer £20,055
Independent Dealer £19,075
Private Good £17,610
Private Poor £14,695
Part Exchange £15,650

The 2010 upgrade at an independent is now £22350 (based on current 2009(59) facelift model)

There is no solution other than a bank account I am afraid Big Cry

I'm not so sure.
With the current FFRR already starting to look dated after being made for over 10 years I think the best time to buy a MY10 could be in a year or two.
By then it'll be less appealing as it'll be old fashioned, heavy, thirsty and have high road tax compared to the newer, lighter, faster, more modern new model.
