United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
Should I update. should I not, if I do 3.6 or 4.4 ?

Hi All

Well some of you will be aware of my issues and I think I have now got through the majority of issues on my car and lavished a lot of money ensuring the repairs were done correctly and with the right parts..

So it's now running well and I am thinking perhaps I should update, mine is 2002 but a change in circumstances means I could possibly justify a much newer model...

So I want a good spec car, I like the latest shape and therefore want to go for that, but I found a 2007 3.6 TDV8 with a Overfinch Aero 3 full facelift, nice car and colour but £33k with 65,000 miles.... then I spot a 59 plate 4.4 Vogue described as fully loaded for £42k with 25,000, seems a good deal.. plus has the digital dash etc for what seems a bargain £9k extra before negotiations...

(these models are just examples I have seen, not viewed a newer model yet..)

So I have three choices...

1. Keep mine
2. Update to 3.6
3. Go a little further and update to 4.4 (is it worth it ?)

This will not be a daily driver as I am getting a new A6 S-line avant due to increasing work mileage so that will be my daily hack and the rangey a weekend car an occasional caravan puller etc...

Just open to thoughts of others who have maybe been in same situation or have gone for a big jump to newer.... was it worth it IYHO

Thanks

B

I faced the same decision when I upgraded from the D4. I was told that the 4.4 was much nicer than the 3.6 so thats what I went for.

I think I made the right decision, super smooth and just a touch of the loud pedal and she takes off like a rocket Thumbs Up

Can that be a 4.4TDV8 on a 59 plate ? I thought the diesel 4.4 only came in late 2010 ??

If it's diesel you're looking for, then definately get the 4.4 if you can reach to one. Better performance & fuel.
Resales are always a problem - spend more, you'll loose more so not sure if it's a better buy financially unless perhaps you'll keep for several years.

I think if you try both I'll be surprised if you want to get the older version even though the 3.6 is very, very, very good Thumbs Up

No way is 59 a 4.4. I think some may have crept in as a late 10 reg. It didn't really enter production until late August/September 2010, so 60 reg is your bet.

Is there really that much of a difference between the 3.6 and the 4.4? Was thinking of getting a 4.4 in case the new L405 was going to look Censored as it seems it will after seeing all the pictures... Big Cry
There is a nice Autobiography for sale that I could get my hands on...

I'm sure the L405 will be an awesome car to drive but what's the point if one doesn't like the way it looks Rolling Eyes Thought they were saying it's going to be in the Bentley league but so far looking at the latest pichtures on ovalnews it surely doesn't look that way Shocked at least from the outside...

It's the combination of the bit of extra power & the 8 speed gear box that makes the 4.4 amazing Thumbs Up

There is a fourth option...

Upgrade/convert yours and use the rest of the money elsewhere? Seriously for under £4k you could have it looking the same as a 12MY and for under £10k it could look the same as the 59reg Overfinch you mentioned... Leaving you £30k+ to do with as you wish...

Food for thought.....

I think the conversion would work up to a point. How good is the TD6 still ?? If it is in very good nick, then the conversion seems to be the way to go, bearing in mind you won't use it hell of a lot.

Pity you can't do the inside Craig, with the rotary gear selector etc. Sad MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks guys,

I have 4.4 V8 so there is another motivation for a diesel there too...

Craig - Like the idea of upgrade but think if I was doing that I would view that better to move to newer model as investment, £10k is £10k and that's a lot towards a newer vehicle...

Re checked that 59 plate and it was a 3.6 Bow down thought it was good LOL

Thanks guys

Does the Overfinch add that much to the value? I bought my 2008 TDV8 for £25k with similar mileage, and judging by the other thread on TDV8 values, its already depreciating!!

Sounds an awfully high price but then I still don't know much about these things! Lloyd Barnes
