TBH i dont know how a street pharmacists consortium dare as i thought they were quite in a while back and were often worn round soho and canal street and such places where RRS would be spotted with Fiat 500's and the ilk....

I cycle about 10 miles each day in London as part of my drive/train/cycle commute and wear a helmet after seeing so many cyclists heads hitting posts/ kerbs/ traffic when pedestrians (usually either talking on the phone/ listening to loud music/ just don't care) step off the kerb without looking at all. It's not a legal requirement, but an A&E friend convinced me that it made sense given the cycling injuries that they were seeing regularly.

Very few of the Boris bikers wear helmets, but given their almost complete lack of awareness of what is around them or rules of the road, I expect that Darwin claims a large majority each week.

I took up cycling again a few years ago. Having never worn a helmet when younger, i wasn't happy wearing a helmet at first. I worked in A&E for 2 years though, and i have a young family who need me to look after them rather than the other way around.

After a while you do get used to the helmet, and now i feel naked without it.

Spend a bit of cash and get a good one with plenty of ventilation. The more you spend, the less there is of the helmet!

You might feel daft at first, but that's better than a head injury...

It very much depends on where you're riding - but exactly the same as motorbikes - the number 1 killer of cyclists is head injuries.

I first started wearing one 20 years ago commuting in London - then I made my kids wear them & felt hypocritical not wearing one myself - these days I'm so used to wearing one, I just feel vunerable without one

I came off my bike last November whilst avoiding another cyclist who was going the wrong way up a one way street. Fortunately I was waring a helmet so only suffered mild concussion rather than something worse.

I would never cycle without one now, not a risk I am willing to take. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

I cycle to work and always wear a helmet. As I do shift work I ride at night as well and the helmet has a light on the front and back of it so other road users can see me.

I have been knocked off when (some) inconsiderate drive didn't give me any room and forced me in to the kerb. Luckerly no damage done but the helmet was scraped when my head it the pavment.

One thing to point out (can't remember her name) a couple of years ago a skier banged her head on SNOW and died Shocked

The last time I rode to work i had a Clio full of idiots overtake me then cut right across me to turn left. I had to lock up the rear and go up the kerb to avoid them and all they did was enter the dead queue of traffic 50yds ahead for the lights.

As I rode past them i thought it only fair to give them some crud back. Their rear wing now has a small dent in it where I slipped off my pedal and stuck my hand out very quickly to stabilise myself..... Whistle

I think the sentence of 'There are licence holders, then there are drivers' rings very true and you can tell the drivers that ride regularly as they are always looking around themselves. Others just poottle aong in their own world in the middle or outside lane and such like.... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

England 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

I always keep an eye out for cyclists but I am amazed by some of the stupidity of some of the courier cyclists and novices that cut down the middle of the roads nipping into blind spots, cutting through red lights, hopping onto pavements and then getting shirty with cars that are following the rules of the road.

I watched with amazement as a Boris bike user cut a corner (on the wrong side of the road and scraped a parked car only to be totally surprised as the car owner was inside and confronted her. The cyclist tried to make out the driver was at fault until I walked across and offered my point of view as a witness.

Obviously you get nutter drivers in cars, bikes, lorries and buses etc, but the boom in cyclists in London is not a good thing unless they also follow the rules and take a basic test, Tom

Should see some Chinese and Taiwanese cities as its mopeds and bikes that rule the road there!!

One nob the other day came towards me in on coming traffic, wrong side of the road and on his phone and looked bemused when I stepped on the horn and blocked his access off the road with the car!!! Finally hung up and started hurling abuse. When I began to open the door he soon had his wheels moving in one direction Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
