United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black
Towing a small trailer to the South of France.

Hi Chaps,

I'm driving the FFRR SC to the South of France this Friday for two weeks camping with the family, and for the first time I'm taking a small trailer (erde 163) to carry all the camping gear.

Its about a 2000 mile round trip, the trailer was brand new earlier this year and its fitted with 13" wheels.

We're driving through the night to avoid sitting in an 800 mile traffic jam each way, and I'm now starting to worry as I don't have a spare wheel and tyre for the trailer. A puncture with no spare at 2AM will not be much fun.

So, do I need a spare? Are trailers typically heavy on tyre wear?

Any advice welcome Thumbs Up

Thanks,

Justin

If you get a spare you won't need it.
Now that you've thought about it, if you don't get one you'll need it.
It's called "Sods Law". Very Happy

If it were me, I'd take a spare as they're not that much from Halfrauds. Wink

Trailertek are good priced but probably to late to order one now for your trip. I think halfords may sell a spare for your trailer

or fill the tyres with goo, prevents the tyres going down if you get a puncture, but not if you totally shred a tyre.

Get the agricultural stuff from any Agr Merchants, try OKO even works on caravans and tractors with hedge cutters subject to thousands of blackthorns

Surprisingly Halfords are the cheapest but they can't get one in time, so I'm going pick one up from Wilstow Ltd in Soham

I guess I need the mount bracket as well?

Cheers

Best to get the mounting bracket.
Worth checking if the land rover wheel key fits the trailer wheel bolts and just use the jack that's in the boot if you need it for the trailer

I drove with small trailer to Normandy with my disco metropolis because we used the seven seats with grandparents on board Bow down

I relied on the trailer covers elastic bungee chords and they snapped as we took the exit for tunnel off motorway Shocked

Bags flew out all over slip road and I had to run back picking everything up and luckily caught the cover before it blew away too Embarassed

I used rachet straps as well after that and never happened again Thumbs Up

I also got a warning from a very nice policeman coming back on same stretch for doing 70 with a trailer - it seemed to take forever after that with the cruise set at 60 Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

How old was elastic bungee chord when it snapped. We're driving at night and I'm now worried that we could be half way across the county before we notice the cover's flown away and the contents are long gone Shocked

Ratchet straps are cheap and plentiful, even at Halfords. Well worth the peace of mind.

Have a good holiday. Si. <This is my name.

I always take a spare for the trailer. I've had the trailer for almost 30 years and never ever needed the spare, so I know for a dead cert that the next time I go out without the spare, and I'm miles from home with a loaded trailer and it's raining, and I've forgotten my phone - THEN I'll get a puncture... Graham

Muddy you should change your name to Lucky!
Very Happy
Justin get a spare mate I see so many of those little trailers on the hard shoulder minus a wheel.
And as posted above if you are towing anything its 60 and no outside lane or risk a ticket i am afraid, havin been passed by so many landrovers towing small trailers, wet bikes etc at well over 70 with the trailer dancing all over the road or flying but the driver cant see or feel it! Mine was a blue one!
