Scotland 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black

The French have introduced lower speed limits for vehicles towing trailers and it is based on the towing limit of the vehicle not the actual mass of the trailer so we are limited to the lower speeds.

From the Caravan Club.
Speed limits when towing a caravan/trailer in France:

 Motorways Other roads
mph kph mph kph
Gross train mass of car/vehicle under 3.5t 81* 130* 56-68* 90-110*
Gross train mass of car/vehicle over 3.5t 56 90 50-56 80-90

Also worth noting that sat/navs that warn of speed cameras are now illegal in France and you have to carry 2 breathalysers.

Ian

ps don't know why the spacing has gone wrong but the limit is 56mph on motorways and 50 to 56 on other roads.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

I've bought a spare wheel and wheel holder, and I'm going back tomorrow with my trailer to pick up a hard top, so that's the bungee chord risk sorted too.

I would have brought the hard top home with me this evening, but it was too large to fit in the boot Sad

I got a cracking deal from http://www.wilstow-trailers.co.uk/ Thumbs Up

not sure how they would view the Max train weight issue,

with a ff would they look at the MGTW of the vehicle (6700kg) irrespective of what it was towing or the max GVW of the FF added plus the max load of the trailer? which would allow for a 300kg trailer for a diesel or 400kg for a petrol, without going over the 3.5t limit as the MGW of a derv ff is 3200kg and a petrol 3100kg.

Or would it be a case of: you are towing something.....your MGTW is 6700kg......dont care you have a small camping trailer not a 3500kg ifor williams.......tuff.

Have fun - I tow my toy south of Bordeaux at Easter and bring it back in September - last year managed to completely shred one of the tyres - very glad I had a spare - but the bolt holding the spare on was a different size Big Cry luckily I had a socket set in the Jeep or it would have been rather embarassing

We are limited to 56mph no matter what size the trailer is.

Must be the most broken limit there is - I see loads of those little trailers bombing past me when I'm towing the Jeep - really can't tow that much past 60.
