I've just fitted a digital freeview box from THIS GUY.
Easy to install as you only need to find an ignition fed positive and an earth, all the other connection are in a loom that's supplied.

It keeps the original tuner and just plugs in to it, then you use the AV function on the dash TV. It comes with a remote, is easy to tune and gives a good picture.

I went for this as I couldn't find an option that you get with the later touchscreen where you can just swap out the tuner. Wink

There's not really anything technical about it.
You have a red & a black wire from the fused power connection to the unit and a red & a black wire to the booster of the antenna. Join these together and find a suitable positive connection that goes off with the ignition. The earth (black wires) are easy as there's a bank of earths above the satnav disc drive in the rear anyway. Wink

If you're worried about the wiring then let me know if you get one and I'll take some photos and do "How too" for you.

I had it wired and working in about 30 minutes and then did some testing for the best place to put the antenna.
The reception is as good as your home TV on a set-top aerial, sometimes better, sometimes worse. I can get ITV1 and Channel 4 from the front of the house but not BBC1 or BBC2. Move up the road 100 yds and all channels are perfect.

As for tuning, is has an "Area Tune" facility that goes through the frequencies automatically, the same as a normal freeview TV does, and loads the TV and audio channels for you. You can also assign you favorites and move the channels around so you get them in the order you want (all the shopping channels when the wife won't find them Laughing )

If reception is a issue then there's an upgraded version that has a twin tuner & twin aerials, but it's twin the price. Wink

Budgie, which wires did you tap into for the positive feed? Can you put a photo on? Did you solder or scotch lock the new wires in? Cheers 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I found an unused plug, maybe for the DVD but I'm not sure, but it's black with a white locking arm on it and take it's feed from a large white connection (see photo below). I took the feed from the Purple/White wire from this plug, cut it and used a red crimp connector. Sadly it's all tied up again and I didn't want to unravel it all again. Wink

This second photo is of the digibox attached to the bottom of the Satnav and it shows the earth connections.

It could be as I don't have the phone installed.

Yep, the other connections are on the supplied loom, one into the original TV tuner, and three audio style connections into the back of the digibox.
The remote eye I fed up the inside of the C-pillar with the aerial cable. The aerial is stick to the top of the passenger side rear window with the cable running into the rooflining and the eye pokes out of the top of the C-pillar trim.
You can either point the remote backwards or aim at the rear view mirror. Wink

Budgie, your car will be pre-wired for phone.

The 54 pin black connector goes to the telephone module.

Also in the pic you can see a thicker wire with a purple and black connector on the end, that is for the bluetooth aerial.

I retrofitted the phone to mine, and is touched on in the thread below ;

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic11997....+bluetooth

You will also have the microphone wiring already there behind the trim near the sunroof switch......

I know its a bit off topic, but thought you'd like to know what the connector was for that you used.

Cheers

Thanks Mark.
I'm in the throws of installing a Parrot CK3100 as I'd bought it for the Vectra VXR that I had before this one but if I can get a ULF module then that will save some effort in running an extension loom to the front of the car. Very Happy

I take it I'm looking for something like THIS?

If you search for BMW ULF on the forum, or from Google, there is quite a bit of info.

http://www.bimmernav.com/ulfchanges.html

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic9793.html

The part number on that ebay item is not on the list, but the list may not be exhaustive.....

So we don't go off topic on a thread about TV tuners PM me if you want to know more, or start another thread - may be better......

Cheers
