I changed both cables this week and used the wiki guidance. Points that I would add.
1. I did not need to compress the brake handle spring to disconnect the cable from the handbrake mechanism under the centre console. It was reasonably straightforward to access the cable heads from the small gap at the back of the centre console. I undid the two torx screws in the bottom of the cubby and removed the rear console with the audio connectors in it and a small plastic plate. With the console lifted up a few inches, I was able to pull the handbrake cable holder back from the handle and release the cables. I then just pulled them through from under the car.
2. I undid the heat shield under the car but could not get it off. However, undoing gave me enough space to shine a torch to see the cable tube openings and was able to feed the cables in. It worked best to do this first and reconnect them inside the car, before reattaching the the hubs.
3. To get the old cables off the brake back plate, I had to cut off the end of the cable and then use a punch to knock through as the retaining bracket at the back of the brake back plate was corroded into place.
Total time for the job approx one hour.
Handbrake is now stronger and will give more comfort to the MOT inspector, but still does not have a reassuring resistance when I pull the handle. I understand that it is designed to be like this. 2014 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography & 2015 3.0SDV6 HSE Lux Discovery 4
