2006 Bluetooth upgrade

I got my dealer to do a software upgrade on my 2006 RRSC but I still can't get my Blackberry to transfer my contacts or connect automatically.

Have they done something wrong?

It does sometimes automatically go to the 'insert passcode' not sure if this is since the upgrade, is there a way of setting it so it doesn't need the 2121 code entering? Then maybe it would connect automatically.

You know it may be your Blackberry, I can't get my 8230 Curve to give anything over.

Have you tried a different phone for a sanity check? Discovery 4 HSE

My mom has a bold 9000, and it reads everything fine, phonebook and all.

I'm not sure what a Bold 9000 is (sounds like washing powder!)

Some Blackberries do have the option to send the phonebook and some don't. Try a n other phone as a test, you'll soon find out the truth. Discovery 4 HSE

A local dealer near me tried twice. Same story with my iPhone.

They were supposed to try again today but luckily for me a friend had a newer module XVJ500420 as opposed to my XVJ500045 and it worked immediately. Doc, stand up and take a bow Thumbs Up

I heard somewhere that although the original module IS compatible with Phone book over bluetooth, sometimes it can take a few goes. Allegedly if the software doesn't 'take' the module should be replaced under warranty as it can be viewed as defective.

I know that during the upgrade process there is an additional step to enable Bluetooth Phone Book vis:

"TOOLS:
Latest IDS DVD; software first released on DVD 111 Patch File 6
Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

RECONFIGURE THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE CONTROL MODULE

CAUTION: A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis.

1. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.
NOTE: IDS must be loaded with software release DVD 111 with Patch File 6 or later.

2. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle.

3. Follow the IDS prompts to read the vehicle configuration.

4. Select 'No' when prompted 'Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?'

5. Select 'tick' to continue.

6. Select the 'Vehicle Configuration' tab when Content Model is displayed.

7. From the Vehicle Configuration menu, configure the 'Cellular telephone control module' by selecting from the drop-down menu:
• 'Module programming' > 'Configure existing module' > 'Cellular telephone control module'

8. Select 'tick' to continue.

9. When the 'TEL_SYSTEM_A module' Network integrity test results file displays, locate '0xf191vm_ecu_hw_pn' and record the "value" on the repair order. (Figure 1)

10. Select the value recorded on the repair order when the pop-up screen appears. (Figure 2)

11. Select 'Active' when prompted 'Is phone voice control active?'

12. Press 'tick' to continue.

13. Select 'Yes' when prompted 'Do you wish to install phonebook over bluetooth upgrade?'.

14. Press 'tick' to continue.

15. Select 'US English' when prompted 'Select language'.

16. Press 'tick' to continue.

17. Select appropriate hardware type (noted in step 9) when prompted 'Select the telephone hardware type?'.

18. Press 'tick' to continue.

19. Verify software to be downloaded.

20. Press 'tick' to continue.

21. When completed, exit the current session.

22. Disconnect the IDS and Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Battery Supply."

Good luck!

Thumbs Up

Isn't that the correct name? At least I think the name is Blackberry bold 9000......

On older cars, the dealer sometimes can't upgrade the module to accept the phonebook.
Mine had that problem and it was replaced under warranty, so now it works fine.

Thanks for all the info, very helpful

My Blackberry has the 'transfer contacts' option and even lets me select which categories of contacts to transfer.

I will try some other phones to see if it is just my phone, although I suspect my dealer has probably not done the upgrade correctly.

They have sent me an invoice for £430, and they have not solved a single one of the 4 seperate faults that it went in for, despite it being with them for 4 days. I am currently considering whether to refuse to pay it.

Thanks again.

More than likely "labour charges" LR DEALERS seem to have a knack of using this policy even tho they are friggin hopeless at trying to solve problems ...........

Been there myself same kind of scenario charged for work that had F Censored k all to do with the original problem ...... ====================================

Mick, you're spot on. With the exception of about £50 parts the rest is labour, quick run down from memory -

1. HDC fault keeps coming on - £127.50 labour to "check connections, earth points and 're-configure system'". They didn't find a single fault. I have now found the fault myself by wiggling wires whilst the engine was running and listening for the warning to come on, it was a bad connection behind the OBD plug in point.

2. Air suspension leak - £45 labour to "check pipes, suspect airbag". Well I did tell them that I had heard air hissing from the front left suspension strut.

3. Check coolant light constantly on - £0 to "re-connect sensor wire". I should think so, it was them who had forgotten to re-connect it after fitting a new radiator and header tank a couple of months before!!

4. Viscous fan coming on when normal temp - about £135 to "supply and fit new Thermostat". This didn't solve the problem, therefore, presumably there was nothing wrong with my old Thermostat.

5. Bluetooth upgrade - £65 - as per this thread.

........... and just for good measure, when I pick the car up it is constantly making a terrible squeeling noise from the main belt - the explanation "we must have spilt some antifreeze on it when changing the Thermostat". How they would even consider handing a car back making that noise I do not know. They are now saying it is something else that apparently should have been replaced as a service bulletin previously.

All the above plus VAT and courtesy car insurance.

Apologies for the rant!!!

No apology necessary, it's another excellent quality of this forum- Most of us here have the same/similar experiences of dealers.

I am told that Guy Salmon Knutsford are good on all counts.

I have similar experience as detailed here in an earlier post on this thread.

There seems to be a terrifying lack of common sense/logical problem solving approach amonst the brain dead cretins these $tealers employ...

Vis:

Plug in computer, read code... change suggested component (by following idiots guide on screen)

computer says no,

Change second component,

Computer says no,

Change third component,

(best case scenario) Fault fixed, return customer vehicle covered in oily monkey hand prints with a fCensoredk off huge bill for 'labour'.

(worst case scenario) as above but without fault fixed.

Gone are the days of skilled mechanics, the modern computer based vehicle has (sadly) scared off the true mechanic, now they are all 'technicians' -I'm an engineer and they make me Censored ing vomit!

Just because you put latex gloves on doesn't make you a surgeon...

Aaaand relax,

Sorry I'll get off my soap box now although I'd guess that the sentiment is not mine alone!

Good luck- I definitely wouldn't pay their bill either so stay strong- ask around here the advice is as excellent as the banter!

May also be theraputic to name and shame the $tealer in the dealership threads. Will also help to discourage the other forum users.

Thumbs Up
