just tried to start the rr, key in ignition lock wont turn, tried spare key same, tried a number of times now the car is now giving me a series of beeps for about 5 minutes then nothing. I cannot now put the alarm on of off.

bastard thing i was supposed to be on the way to doctors.

any ideas or help pls

would a dodgy battery stop the key in the iginition from turning???

not sure to be honest, the starter switch is so complicated. Think mine went like this when the battery went US a while back - despite small levels of power being left in the battery. Also the starter frequently doesn't connect if you jump in and turn it too quickly - ecu brain not overiding the imobiliser probably.

It could also be linked to a gear box senser preventing the key turning if the car thinks it is in gear.

Yes double check its properly in Park and your foot is on the brake pedal.

A good way to tell if your battery is drained is when you insert the key and turn it to position 1 the steering wheel will adjust itslef and you can tell from the noise and speed of this movement if it sounds like its going flat.

well yup it was the battery replace cost £79 however now car alarm does not work so took it into Gorden lamb chesterfield and they say it will cost £45 to resync key to alarm. does this sound feasable?

Sounds feasible for a Dealer to say that yes....is it cost effective for what they actually do? Probably not, but what choice do you have? Discovery 4 HSE

Polux Is your RR petrol or diesel as that battery sounds very reasonable. If it was a diesel do you know what the make and spec was?? many battery dealers tried to palm me off with lower spec batteries than OEM standard and these came out at the £70 to £80 mark, their AH was significantly lower.

Just replaced mine for a Varta 110A & 920 AH £110 ex VAT - don't ask how much the main agent wanted!

No, you can do it yourself I believe. Some combination of buttons and key turns within a certain amount of time.... Info is in the WSM

Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.

Initialisation Procedure

1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.
2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position 0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds of turning the ignition switch to position 0.
3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.
4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock button three times within 10 seconds.
5 Release both buttons.
6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat step 4.
7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again.

the AH is 920 whereas the std OEM LR battery was 850 - kicks the engine into life like a mule wander if it will last the 5 year warranty out though...

I did a search in Rave, although knew it was there as I read the whole thing from cover to cover before I bought the L322 (geek). I think it was in the "Security" section, search for "Initialisation"
