United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey

Hoe much are the fan spanners and is there maybe someone near Doncaster/Warrington who could lend me them for a little bit to get the job done on mine?

I may be able to keep it after all but something else has really given Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Can anyone confirm the size of the spanner needed? I am finding conflicting reports about 32mm or 36mm. Tom

Would this still work if it actually got hot? Anyone from a warmer climate tried this? Should be ok now we are running up to Winter, but if I do this I'll have to keep an eye on it come Spring time...

@ flashman

You need 2 x 32mm spanners (for TD6) - one of them needs to be skinny - Halfords do them especially for vicious fans (intended mispelling!) and also a normal 32mm combination .

You might get away with one spanner, if you can use inertia to undo the nut, but it didn't work for me.

and note, the thread undoes the other way .

Brrr. Laughing Summer is over, but we are still heading for 30 today, but with a cool change this arvo - will be a bit chilly tomorrow - only 18...

But, on a serious note, I will try it without the viscous on and report back on if I have any overheating problems. I don't tow anything with it, so I doubt in the short term I will have any issues.

Well time for an update Very Happy

Last Friday i popped by Robs and with his experience set about attacking the fan!!

Getting at the nuts was a burger to say the least as access is so restricted, even with the cowling moved a bit.

We finally got it loose and then spun it off Smile

Once off it still felt stiff and a quick look revealed the bearings had started to go on holiday, some completely and with them exposed and no grease in there they began to seize and thus the problem..

After removal the engine was super quiet Very Happy comparing to Robs TD6 i attribute the lower noise/clatter on mine to running on BioD for so long flushing and cleaning the fuel system out(she smokes sometimes when booted now I'm using normal petrol station rubbish!)

Also noticed on avg so far a 1mpg increase for me as well since its been fixed though i haven't been doing any fuelly updates lately Sad but am now just over 30mpg when cruising at 56-60 on the mway with AC on Smile

Its also so quiet now at any speed and doesn't have every tom d1ck and harry looking as i accelerate at any speed from anywhere thinking a harrier is coming after them!!

Rob, many thanks again for your help, the back passenger door may be next if your up for it Very Happy
And the temp has stayed firmly in the just a smidge to the left of the middle and not gone any higher even when sat for 5-10minutes crawling in traffic the other day when it was warm Very Happy


Though off to buy some new wheels this week to clean up and see if i like them or not Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Yep up for rear door just gisa text when your wanting to do it.
When your wheel hinting would you look out for some 19 inch rims as we spoke about please .

RichL did yours sound like a Boeing 737 on take off, mine sounds like this at low speed till the engine passes approx. 2000rpm after that the noise disappears. Most noticeable from cold.

Wel time for an update.

Fan Removed i am seeing at least 1-2mpg improvement on the OBC (not doing fuelly yet sorry!) and this is mainly town driving as well...

The engine sat for 10minutes the other day in a very very long stream of traffic at 9am when it was at full temp and it was warm enough for all the windows down and a tshirt, the guage just stayed straight in the middle!
This is with the AC OFF as no point it being on unless windows are closed, and the engine seemed perfectly happy with it Smile

Over all unless you do tow a lot or are in a much hotter climate i don't think removing it is a big concern and if temps did start to claim whacking the AC on would quickly bring them back down for you or indicate your cooling system isnt up to par Smile

Again, Thank You kindly for your time Rob as it is greatly appreciated and when i get the chance i'll be bugging you for that rear door as the speaker rattles but im convinced its now dirt inside due to the way it rattle lol!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
