rear wiper speed adjustment

This has been bugging me for a while. The user manual says that the rear wiper speed can be adjusted, but no matter what I do, it always swipes every 12 seconds. Do I miss something or is it controlled by an ECU that’s defective?

I take it you have tried the method of push the stalk forward and immediately pull back again then at your preferred interval push forward and leave it there ? 2008 MY Supercharged

"The delay between wipes can be set by the
driver. Turn the wiper on, then off - leave the
wiper off for the desired delay period (0 - 30
seconds), then turn the wiper back on. If the
switch is turned back on immediately, the wiper
will operate continuously. The default delay is
10.5 seconds. If the starter switch is turned off,
or the wiper switch is turned off for longer than
10 seconds, the delay returns to the default
setting."

The front intermittent on my 1988 735i was exactly the same, so I'd imagine it's something BMW have used for some time.

Though I do think its a backward step that the rear wiper doesn't come on if you select reverse and the front wipers are on.

Had that on my Discovery 2, and I miss that feature. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

If your rear wiper is on and you select reverse it goes to continuous wipe though.

The rear wiper also operates continuously if reverse gear is selected and the front wipers are on.

I normally don't have my rear wiper activated, as it were. I just tend to flick it on once when I need it, so the "old" way of working used to be good for me.

Guess I'll have to have it switched on in the rain if I want the "reverse function".

Cheers

Well, after a visit to the dealer (steering angle sensor replacement) and the initialisation that was performed, the rear wiper started working normally too!
