Anyone had any issues with the Eurotunnel? I'm thinking about using it for a trip to Le Mans this year but noticed on their website the max laden weight is 3.5 tonnes (I assume this is 3500kg). With 5 decent sized blokes, enough alcohol to kill an elephant and camping gear do you think I'll be nearing overweight?

By beer when you get to France, its much cheaper over there and saves carrying the additional weight.

I took my FFRR full loaded with camping gear last year and it was fine. Make sure you as a book tall vehicle, as it will be very tight in the 1/2 height carriages.

This is the first year in 15 that I won't be going to Le Mans Last few in the RR which has been superb.

As Justin has said, buy the beer there (Auchan, North Le Mans is just a short detour for all food and drink needs) and book in as an over height vehicle. Anyway, I dont think they weigh the car at any point.

no lpg on eurotunnel but you probably know that and book the 'over 1.87m' [i think] and you'll get on much quicker with the coaches etc...mind there's only one toilet per carriage so with all the coach passengers it does get busy.. ... - .- -.

Thanks for all the replies! Is the Eurotunnel much better than the ferry? My passengers want to go on the ferry so they can get a beer, but I don't want to sit in traffic just so they can drink! I'd far rather they just sit in the back of the car and drink and we get there earlier ....

For me living in Kent, it is Eurotunnel all the way but for you in Leeds it may be nice to have a break? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Unfortunately I am picking up the passengers from Nottingham on the Thurs morning and they are on a tight budget so extra stays aren't on the cards. I guess the ferry would be nice as a break from the drive ...

We tried the tunnel, but now always use the ferry.
After the drive down from Cumbria, its nice to be able to have a couple of hours to stretch legs, get a coffee and some fresh air. On the tunnel, its just another 45mins sitting in the car. (Or standing next to it.)

Also easy to fill up at BP in Dover (open 24hrs), and then you cam get half way down France without needing to refuel. Avoid motorways services if you can for petrol. Especially unleaded.!!

If you're coming back on Sunday make sure you fill up near Le Mans on the way down (there's a well placed station near the aerodrome). Most fuel stations are very busy on Sunday with Brits having to fill up and struggling with the pay at pump instructions!

In fact you're best of going into France with a full tank as the first few stations on the way down tend to be jammed full, good excuse to see the exotica there though...

I find the tunnel much better than ferries, but then I do get sea sick (where's the vomit emoticon when you need it). They can be far quicker too, but others prefer the break of a ferry and I believe they tend to be cheaper.

When we go down to the south of france, we use the tunnel every time. However we do stay over night in Ashford and get an early crossing the next day. Quick and easy, yes, but there are cheaper crossings to had on the ferries. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
