While it could happen this sounds unlikely.

Suggest you investigate the air line connection to each air bag (difficult with no suspension travel as they are at the top of the strut, and the control valve behind the drivers side (RHS) wheel arch liner (against the footwell). This is the most likely place as a loose connection here would affect both front bags.

An air line coming away will still make a good popping noise.

FWIW my photo tutorial on changing airbags, will at least show you where everything is, and the challenges you might face in changing the struts.

ALWAYS put the car in max height (off road) setting before jacking and leave the tailgate open.

This method stops the wheel drooping (extending without use of air - causes problems) when the wheel lifts off the ground and also makes jacking up a lot quicker.

This is important and should be followed at all times well self jacking or getting a garage to do it. RTFM. Very Happy

Opening the tailgate does not stop my car from levelling itself, but keeping a front door open does.

Yes in your case leave front door open but tailgate should do the trick for most Smile

Interesting, but for cars upto 2005 the handbook advises jacking the car with the supplied jack using the 4 sill jacking points. No mention is made of suspension height or leaving doors open.
Essentially the proceedure described is the same as any other car.
Personally I have never used nor intend to use the supplied jack which I consider not fit for purpose and downright dangerous.
When I want to take a wheel off I use two trolley jacks.
One placed under the sill jacking point and the other under the wishbone at the rear or under the transverse link at the front depending on which wheel I want to remove. I then raise the car with the sill jack and as the weight of the car is carried by that jack I then progressively raise the wheel with the second jack always making sure the weight of the car is being taken by the sill jack.
I then place an axle stand under the car at an appropriate point.
I've found this very effective and very safe.
Given the experiences described above I doubt I would ever let a garage remove a wheel unless under supervision, the consequences of a mistake by them appear to be rather expensive.

Ive stripped front legs down what i think has happened is as it was jacked and the wheel and leg extends due to the stifness in the airbag it has pulled itself off the lower mount all that seals on the lower is o rings and the pressure in the bag keeps it atached as its jacked up the shock lower mount has pulled out the bag and the air escapoed and because the fronts are piped together the other side goes down regardless so if u did strip down the side that was jacked i would be shocked if the bag had burst more likely the o rings have ripped from the air forcing past them or maybe just needs reseating on the shock lower mount onto no6 Range Rover

I am sure we have had this jacking up discussion before ?

The suspension will drop regardless of what height you set it at.

Putting in off road height just means you have less jacking to do (if you use blocks to make up the extra space)

The handbook says not to jack under the suspension ( I guess only to prevent damage to suspension parts, as I am sure it can't have anything to do with the air side of things)

My car has never tried to level itself when I am jacking it up, even with all doors closed. .

Going back to the original problem, I doubt both airbags have popped. Probably something else has gone that is common to them both. Remember they are cross connected to allow the self levelling to work.

As far as jacking up is concerned, RAVE makes no mention of which access height to put the car in, although it does give very strict warnings about what not to do. Therefore I conclude the height is irrelevant, although I accept it takes less effort to jack it to the required height if you put it in off road mode first.

The garage could be responsible here if they have jacked up the car in a place they should not have done and damaged something relating to the suspension as a result. However, I presume you weren't watching that closely and did not see exactly what they did. Maybe there is some CCTV that could be pulled.

What I think you need is the precise diagnosis of the fault. This will help determine whether something has been damaged or whether it is a wear and tear issue.

Hi all!

I am a very happy ff owner.

Spoke to the garage and both mechanics admitted liability which I recorded on my phone (slightly sneaky but as I'm a girl I know my way around cars a little more than some girls I didnt trust them and thought they may lie) so I just asked simple open questions some a little technical and the answers came out admittley they did not change the suspension mode and they did in fact jack up the car incorrectly causing it damage.

So forth them taking responsibility has meant my insurance company are happy to cover, so car is at the garage my relaible RR dealer is pulling the quote the insurance company will approve and I should have this sorted hopefully by next weekend.

Only troubles is I've got a 4x4 Volvo as my replacement. Better than nothing I suppose!! *SSS*

They admitted to damaging the car so it should all be sorted in a weeks time. *SSS*
