Scotland 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black

I looked at the D3 and the sport when I moved from a p38 to the last FF and found the drivers seat area far more cramped in both.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Cairns Blue

Tried a FF, Disco and a Sport back to back when looking.
although the sport and disco had the same more modern engine they were on similar plates to the FF, thought the interior on the FF was streets ahead and that the sport was cramped and the disco very plain for a top model (hse) They were all very nice and any would have been fine but the FF was £5k cheaper than the sport admittedly with a couple more miles. So a bargin for the luxury and toys, its just trying to get everything working Whistle Mine was a blue one! Smile

I think the point is 2 very different market places & about 20K !

Used prices are always doing silly things, but that doesn't really come into it. It's all down to the new cost price.

JLR will only be interested in the new sales when bringing out a new model and they must do a roaring trade managing to sell Range Rovers to a new breed of owner who would never shell out as much as a new FF price or probably even want to be seen in a FF because of the image the daddy has. Mind you the Queen has a few FF's, but then so does Jordan ! the world is a wonderfully mad diverse place Thumbs Up

They would have lost big time to the X5's etc if they didn't do something. I guess they decided making "Range Rover" as a separate brand rather than the top vehicle of the land rover range was a good idea for them.
Would have been better if they had called it a land rover Stormer and followed on Land Rover Evoque etc....but then what do I know Rolling Eyes

Total newbie here, so apologies for the silly Qs. Am i right in understanding from the above that the Sport is basically built around the Discovery? Does that mean it's pretty capable off road, all in all?

The interior might be to cramped for me in any case, but I'm not yet ruling one out as choice of RR here is so limited. I don't like the discovery look, but (puts tin hat on) the Sport is really rather pleasing.

Sorry if I'm hijacking.

Yes, the Range Rover Sport is essentially a Discovery with a different body on.

......though you can't get the TdV8 in a Disco........

To me its just less practical, so imagine I'd end up with a Discovery......but it does have the Range Rover badge........

Less practical in that it's a lot less capable off road than Discovery?

I think possibly you are a bit confused by offroad ability. RRS, D4 and FFRR use terrain response (now). They all have similar capabilities. The D4 is often touted as the more capable because it's cheaper and therefore you are likely to be less worried about scratching it etc.

ALL Land Rover products are extremely capable offroad, some are better at things than others (due to weight, or the drive system).

Stick a set of MT/R's on an FFRR and it's pretty much unstoppable in normal offroad situations. Personally I wouldn't use offroad ability as a tickbox on the LR range, as the real component of the ability is you, the driver Very Happy Land Rover Addict

Ah, that makes things easier, DMRR, thanks.

My offroading will be limited to heavily rutted mountain tracks, nothing serious. Sounds like any LR would do.

So the most important limitation of the Sport would be that it can't take the superior TVD8 engine?

Very Happy Now I am puzzled!

So what explains the general disdain on here for the Sport?

It's built on the D4 platform, the interior is cramped and it's .. well ... not as well appointed as the FFRR. Early ones are very plastic inside, which cheapens the RR name Cool Land Rover Addict

You are on the Full Fat Forum ... I am sure that if you went onto the RRS forum, you would find a fair few with a different opinion who rate the sport higher ...

All a question of preference IMHO - We had a P38 and I loved that so when we were upgrading, the FFRR was an obvious choice - Also looked at a Cayenne and a Sport but I thought the Sport was a little less roomy on the inside and was certainly no cheaper ... the Cayenne was cheaper but not as comfortable so we opted for comfort over all else and got the FFRR. African Bush Junkie ... in London!

When I said less practical, I was meaning less boot space, and less seats etc.

I have done quite a bit of off roading in a number of vehicles over the years, and like has already been said, the main limitation is the driver.

Put a decent set of off road tyres on any Land Rover product, and it'll pretty much go where you want.

I'm not against the Sport, its more of an X5 competitor than the big Range Rover, its just that the Range Rover is a nicer place to sit, and is a more expensive car - which you can now get at a good price on the second hand market.........much more car for the money, as it were.

I think unless its a TdV8, I'd have a Discovery over a Range Rover Sport, solely as the Disco has more space etc......... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Personally I love the FFRR and don't see the added value of a SSRR over a D4. I had a D4 for my little Kruger park trip in SA and must say I loved it. That car is a very very good car and left me wondering if a FFRR is worth the extra money. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want to miss my FFRR for the world but if I had a budget that wouldn't allow me to buy a FFRR then I would happily settle for a D4.

So bottomline no SSRR as the D4 has the same "technology" and more space (and travelling with 7 suitcase, a baby trolley and only one baby shows how big the D4 actually is Razz). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
