E Bay and cheap parts

I think we all buy stuff on line and off E bay to keep our pride and joy on the road and its is a way to save cash however please be careful as the below is what can happen.

First Britpart fuel filter supplied by a Land rover specialist as part of a service kit. When installed it had a bad fuel leak from where sensor fits in the top, diesel sprayed all over car and drive, hours to clean up, supplier replaced but I had to return filter and was never offered any postage etc.

Second. GM gearbox filter again from a Landrover specialist. Filter fitted as per Rave bleed through all gears as per Rave. Tested no drive, removed gearbox sump again just to see if I had disturbed anything refitted re bled no drive in a panic as I dont know anything about auto's sent to specialist. With the box's reputation they just stripped it. Found no fault then went through every component found filter was manufactured wrong with a blockage in the delivery tube. Result bill for £1200.
After 12 months of headache and stress managed to take supplier to small claims court they decided to settle before we got to court which is why I can now post about it but have had a gearbox with a reputation stripped for no reason so fingers crossed everytime I drive it.

Moral if possible check parts or buy from reputable established suppliers.
Hope this helps someone else to avoid a costly mistake. Mine was a blue one! Smile

I know someone who had exactly the same fault with a Britpart fuel filter on a FF.
The gearbox filter wasn't Britpart as well by any chance? They do supply them.
Wouldn't touch their stuff.

I buy all my parts from either my local Land Rover dealer or Dan, pay once fit and forget.
Cheap parts tend to not fit or be not fit for the purpose Whistle

I agree but the people selling are supposed to be Landrover specialists with big stores ads in the magazines and big websites Mine was a blue one! Smile

Funny thing is, half the time you'll find the 'cheap parts' on ebay, cost more than the main dealer parts anyway! I've noticed it a number of times, especially when you factor in postage!

Sometimes think I should start buying common parts from main dealer and selling them on ebay with 10% mark up plus postage! Rolling with laughter

Deffo worth always checking dealer price first, and only buying OE stuff if very sure about quality! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

To be honest chaps, if you haven't figured it out by now you must have a rich spouse to be in a FFRR because frankly, you're too stupid to hold down a job. Mr. Green A gentle reminder then.

Buy cheap, buy twice.
Britpart = Sh*tpart
EBAY = lying, conning gits, no exceptions.
Online breakers are all direct blood descendants of Dick Turpin.
Main dealers have parts suppliers - these are the ones to use.

Live as if the above rules are the 10 (OK then, 5) commandments and you'll go to heaven. Thumbs Up

Completely agree!

Won't go near anything Britpart even if I was paid to do so. I have a great picture of a superb LR engineering company forced to use Britpart for a project vehicle. They renamed the packaging to make their views known... Whistle Mr. Green

Main dealer is risk free, generally. But I do use Dingocroft in High Wycombe for most of my LR parts (my 110 and Series 3) who mostly deliver for free in my area. They will supply what's requested and are well aware of quality differences.

On my FF, I wouldn't risk anything other than Genuine. Si. <This is my name.
