Older vehicles

Hi,
looking at a 54 4.4 V8 petrol. What specific things should i be on the lookout for - things i should be aware of? What are the mpg / ins figs for this rangie?

Don't know anything about the V8 petrol but try to go for one with the touchscreen nav or make sure the earlier nav one is much cheaper! Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

V8 specific are the oil vapour pipes at the back of the engine.

Cam cover gaskets prone to leakage.

Water pump could need replacing. Ditto the radiator.

Look for replacements of at least one of the above. Factor in costs to do the others at some point.

Beyond that, factor on a gearbox oil and filter change. Check because it could have been done if the gearbox ever leaked oil.

Then there's the usual L322 items common to all variants.

Fuel economy? I get 18.5mpg on average in mixed driving. Long motorway runs get me 21mpg. These engines are consummate mile eaters. Si. <This is my name.
