Another rotten start to the week...

Bloody taxi yesterday morning reversed at a great speed into my Range Rover parked at work...

He then did a runner, but despite being caught clearly on CCTV they were denying it... Police seemed uninterested and said that if I went to the station they could give me a police number for the incident to give to my insurance company...

I don't want a sodding number - I want my bloody car mended...

I took a CD of the footage to the cab office. Initially they tried to be rather threatening - but I was so bloody enraged I didn't back down. Suddenly it wasn't a problem and when I told them how much it was going to cost to repair, it was handed over silently, in cash.

I felt like I had a target on my back though as I walked out of their office with £3k in used twenties.

So, a stressful, but ultimately successful day.

I tend to think that cab firms seem to be a front for crooks - they had a lot of big chaps in the office for such a small firm, and £3k is a lot of wedge to have hanging about...

TBH taxi firms are just fronts, every single one as there is no way for a new taxi firm to start up in any area as they are locked down with fee's and so on and the gangs that run them tend to make sure any upstarts soon fail.....

You did good to get that out of them as i guess they didn't want the 5-0 sniffing around them or their insurance co. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

i had a taxi smash into the side of my Grand Cherokee a few years ago. they wanted to pay in cash after i made him see sense, but i insisted that it go through the insurance because that makes them pay up for the repairs and it hurts their walletts when their premiums go through the already sky high roof... Thumbs Up

Thats a bit harsh..! I have to say id always go down the cash route if possible, why bother thru insurance it just drives everyone's else's premiums up.. And sometimes cash is the easiest simplest way. I'd always hope if it was the other way around the person would let me pay cash.. Thumbs Up

depends on the damage caused....there could be other problems found if/when the repairers do the job , whereas you might take a cash sum of £3k for instance only to find out it cost more to repair... ... - .- -.

why should an arrogant taxi driver, or any driver for that matter be allowed to smash into your car and get off lightly?? the fact to me that they are so called professional drivers as well makes it even worse.

i side with Stan as well in that you can't see what damage is underlying. my jeep didn't look too bad bodywork wise, but there was damage to the hub/suspension assembly and the transmition.

it cost a shed load to repair. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Ur right i have only ever been hit slightly and by non taxi drivers at that.. If it was bad damage id defo
Go thru insurance..and to add taxi drivers (and bus) on Irish roads are a disgrace so if it was me I'd probably end up going thru insurance. Thumbs Up

Well - the only damage is to the back bumper (cracked and paint scuffed) - and the the lover tailgate - paint scuffed where bits of plastic bumper hit it.

So - she's in the body shop at the moment - they are going to fit a brand new bumper/reflectors etc and repaint the lower tailgate.

Should be some change from the 3K and if there is I will repay it to the cab firm - even if they don't play by the rules of decency, I do!
