tracking

with the advent of the likes of Find iPhone (it locates your lost or stolen phone or tablet) you'd think somebody would come up with something inbuilt to locate cars, that would be really cheap to fit and maintain.

The cheap option - plug your spare iphone in to your car and leave it on.

Works brilliantly when it's got charge .... or signal.

The downsides of cheap - how will you know if it is working or not. How will you know the cars been nicked? Land Rover Addict

Just "lose" a cheap payg phone with charger in the boot, and sign up to an online tracking service, e.g.

You mean an app like this one?

There are a number of these types of apps for the iPhone.

If you go to a Westfields shopping centre they have vehicle tracking. It takes a picture of your car when you have parked. When it is time to leave, you punch in your license plate into the ticket machine and it tells you exactly where the car is. I believe they have/will be integrating it into their iPhone app. Paul

around 10 or more years ago i approached several of the large tv manufactures with an idea i had, it was a tracking device to work with anything that had an antenna and would send out a registered code, if a tv,radio ect got stolen as soon as it was plugged back into the electric it would send out the code. none of them were interested in the idea and still to this day they have not incorporated such a device, there view was if your tv got stolen they would rather you buy a new one then have any chance of getting your old one back. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

best place would be to tap the power running in the rear right corner that powers the trailer lights and stuff ... then have the phone tucked up and under the rear quarter window shelf area ( the bit with the vents on it )

another place would be up behind the roof lights above the rear view mirror. there is a constant power source to power the interio lights and there is space between the roof lining and the metal of the outer roof. V8 or else ...

I did say built in, I was thinking more along the lines of integrated into the electrics, ie hard to get at and impossible to remove without immobilising the car
