Access to boot

As I will shortly be moving up from a Sport to a proper Range Rover, I have ben thinking about access to the boot. With the FFRR having a drop down tailgate does this make reaching items near the rear seats awkward or impossible? I can manage with the Sport but the tailgate puts me another foot away at least, so how do members overcome this problem other than closing the tailgate and leaning over the top.

Probably a silly question but I'm getting too old to go climbing about trying to retrieve that tin which rolled up to the front. Big Cry

I have a plastic boot liner from my old e61 BMW which I have on the floor of the boot which I can pull out and push into the boot. It is a slight issue.

Just don't try lifting the spare wheel out unless you are particularly strong, found that really difficult. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Leave the lower tailgate up to reach far away items, then lower it to drag heavy items out. Alternatively you can sit on the edge of the lowered lower tailgate to help you reach further in Thumbs Up

47p2, I like the idea but not enough room in my garage to swing a cat, let alone a lariat.

DMRR, Good idea to park on a hill, except I'd have to then walk 500 metres in the pouring rain back to the house. Not sure about the netting as I'm talking about that tin of beans which accidentally fell out of the Tesco shopping bag on the way home.

northern monkey jones, I have a "Sliding Load Floor" in the Sport which does similar to what you had, it is brilliant and so easy to use, but nothing similar seems to be available for the FFRR.

Probably end up keeping a long enough stick with a hook on the end in the boot.

There are a variety of cargo net solutions for the Range Rover - have a google Smile All will deal with 'shopping' ... alternatively, use boxes Very Happy Land Rover Addict

Also, drop car to access height, gives a few more inches reach.

I also use plastic storage boxes to make reaching things easier. .

+1 for the dropping height.

JustinP has my favourite suggestion so far, sit on the tailgate and reach in. It's just that I hoped a £70K+ vehicle with everything powered would have some automatic means of retrieving such out of reach items just by the press of a button. Whistle Rolling with laughter

How about a 3 sets of small roller tracks 1m long screwed
To the underside of some ply and covered in car upholstery felt or carpet.

Cut to the right size the ply will just drop in and as roller tracks only move forwards and back should be fairly secure laterally.

Should be able to knock one up for less than 50 quid. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

OldCro,

I have the rigid load liner for theboot of mine and although not powered in any way, because it's rigid it does "slide in and out very easily" (calm down fellas Shocked )

Would be worth a try but I'm 5' 9" so not that tall and never had any issues getting stuff out of the boot. Ash

Lower tailgate...accelerate hard.........simples !!

Seriously, if you don't fancy boxes or nets don't work, the rigid load liner sounds a good idea. You can just pull it towards you then, sort of like on the RRS......

Or put tins of beans at the bottom of your shopping bag.......

.....still leaves an issue with tins of tomatoes and rice pudding, but I'm all out of ideas there... Laughing

Or you could give the tins a jolly good talking to whilst heading for the checkout. Might get through quicker then.....!!
