Auto text on iPod ain't as good as it should be

DAM and double DAM.

I've now replaced,

- Lower tailgate wiring loom
- LH + RH Actuator units
- Relay
- Fuse(wasn't blown anyway)

And still can not get anything to happen when I press the dammed button to unlock them

Is there a reset procedure or something i am missing as i cna't find anything in RAVE about it other than the relay relies on a message from the BCU across Fuse 16 to activate the Tail Door Relay.

The only thing i notice is that the new relay i have is 4 pin, yet the place it goes seems to be 5 pin... Dont get me wrong it fits in just fine, im just wondering if something is missing.

I guess i need to get a volt meter and starting checking the whole lot Wish i had an MSV2 now as no doubt i could just force the signal from the BCU to test it...

Anyone??

Are you getting a voltage reading at the switch or actuators?

I haven't got that far yet im afraid It will likely be next week when the nipper is out that i can try that.

What kinda voltage should it be as i think my 9083 is toast so was going to rig up a test bulb and see if it worked? Just a low power Maglite bulb

I would expect to see 12v at the switch. Also I would have checked this before buying all the new parts

The loom was shot and had seen some bodgework before so i had to replace it as i don't like untidy cabling

Well my 9083 is on the bay so i ordered a cheap draper unit from amazon for £12 and it seems turdy and OK enough so will be giving the units and good going over tomorrow as should only take about 10 minutes to take the panels off and connect to each one.

May keep the croc clips from my 9083 though and the test leads as they are MILES better than the cheap ones i got with the draper and croc clips are soooo useful

Well I've now tested at the switch and actuators and no power at all. I do notice the switch has 3pins but the cable is only 2pins at the plug but still it goes open circuit when activated

I think the switch part of the loom goes forward into the car as I'm sure it tells the canbus to then activate the relay

Where can I go now as I'm sure it's something simple but I've checked the fuses!!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My lower tailgate stopped working a couple of days ago. The motor doesn't sound when I press the button but the tailgate will open manually of course.

This morning, I took the fuse out to check it, when I refitted the fuse, the motor fired and unlocked the catches. I have tried it a few times, the button on the tailgate does nothing but taking out and refitting the fuse operates the locks. Any thoughts on what the problem is? Faulty switch or a relay or what? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Sorted now.

My problem was caused by the black release button being stuck down. I played around with it for a while and it seems fine now. Simple job - simple solution  No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Thanks mikey, think I've tried this but I'll give it another go before it goes to an indie for its wheel bearing this week an I ask them to check the bcm incase it's totally locked out from the previous owners wiring attempt...

Is anyone playing around with their tailgate at all and able to run some electrical tests on their release button and the wiring to it at all??

The local garage tested it earlier and think that the switch is at fault as when its pressed the BCM sees nothing but no fault is logged against it
