Somehow SWMBO'd has cracked the screen on her IP4 , not sure if it is still under warranty as the phone had not been dropped or such the crack on the screen eminates from the round lock/unlock button on the bottom , anyhow question being can this be replaced okay if not covered by warranty , can the glass front be bought outside Apple ....

It happened to me - I did all the research & decided the best way to go was with Apple themselves - I can't remeber the exact cost but it was between £100 & £150. The advantage is that you don't need to wait - they give you a new handset its warranted and you know it's a top class repair.

my sons teacher confiscated his iphone 4 but dropped it and cracked the front screen... long story short the school said they would pay the £139 to get it sorted at the genius bar at apple ...when the story was explained to the apple bloke he decided not to charge ...apparently the stores have a certain amount of 'free of charges' they can do...worth a try mick.. ... - .- -.

I met someone at one of the accounts I visit. They had their iphone 3GS smashed screen repaired for around £30 at a independent mobile shop. I can't see it being anymore expensive for the IP4.

If they charge ridiculous money, just go into one of those shops that repair and unlock phones or buy the part off eBay. I have had to buy the speaker on ebay cause my toddler chews and drools all over my phone and now my loudspeaker is they send u the tools and all. It's a genuine part for £1.40..! |

iphone 4 screens are bonded on, unlike the 3g/3gs ones which are stuck with glue and the screens on these are very easy to do , i've done a few for my boys mishaps........

Bit Late I know but changing it is fairly easy so long as you get the glass & digitizer package.

Screen can easily be replaced. It is one unit (glass, LCD and home button) which makes it even easier than the 3GS etc. if your phone is older it will have philips screws, if it is newer then the pentalobe screws. Either way the vendors on eBay usually send both with the replacement parts. Look at ifixit.com for a simple guide to replacing any parts.
