It was exactly the same with mine. Everytime someone had a look, they could see nothing obvious, and it passed an MOT.

The garage then started to change out parts, cheapest first.

I wasn't too worried, as I wasn't paying..........but the dealer kept asking the garage "are you definately sure its that ?"......

Not what you want to hear I know.

Not sure how else you could do it - unless you can find some parts that you can return if it doesn't fix it....

I've also read that it doesn't help when mechanics check parts with the car suspended in the air on a ramp, as the suspension isn't "loaded" and part wear can appear different (?)

Hi Folks

Hi, I have the same suspension knock on mine, only on the off side front. Similar to some posts here, all front suspensions bushes, arms, track rod ends and full anti roll bar have been replace over time. In addition I've experienced a "rattling" brake pad" issue and have replace both brake carriers and installed genuine LR pads which resolved "that issue.

Unfortunately the other "knocking" is much heavier in "sound quality" and if you have your hand on the gear lever, you can actually feel the vibration.

The only thing that I haven't replaced is the shock absorber. A mechanic friend of mine sat in the engine bay with his hand on the shock mount in the engine bay and could definitely feel the vibration as I drove "very slowly" up a rough laneway. I haven't got round to doing anything about it yet (too many other bills to be paid, I'm afraid), but would be interested to hear peoples experience. "Touch wood" the air bag is OK at present. 0-60 takes 5 and a half seconds...and about 17 gallons of fuel....

And ... its back!

Still getting the clunking sounds and now (and maybe I am just getting paranoid) but I can hear it from the front right as well?

Its really strange because it doesn't come up if I hit a speed bump or anything else where both tyres hit the obstacle and the suspension absorbs the impact but manifests itself on manhole covers, potholes or when I go over those 20 Zone bumps where only one tyre is being lifted at a time ... Banging Head Banging Head

Guess its back to the Garage again ... Sad African Bush Junkie ... in London!

Agreed, its the exactly the same with mine, slight rifts in the road, manhole covers etc and you can hear the knock on the passenger side, but if both wheels engage the "obstacle" at the same time....nothing.

Let us know how you get on at the garage again!!!!

Had this very same issue for ages, lower suspension arms done both sides, still there. Got the drop links done this morning , both sides again & hey presto, like a totally different car! If you have replaced all of these, then it's the track rod ends next.

Would this symptom not indicate something not right with the anti roll bar ? Has that been checked?

T thought it might have been the anti roll bar and replaced it (bitch of a job, have to drop the whole front suspension to get it to fit in, even LR tech said theres no shortcut)

Result, clunk still there. 0-60 takes 5 and a half seconds...and about 17 gallons of fuel....

Been under mine, the new arb links I fitted last year have worn already...

Have got genuine ones on order, not chancing pattern parts no matter how cheap!
