£200 for new key?!!

The key for my 2008 TDV8 seems to have given up remote locking and unlocking. My delaer said the battery cant be replaced and a new key is needed at a cost of £200 (cant find the spare!)...surely there has to be a cheaper solution! Can anyone help? Thx

The dealer is probably correct.

I had a very similar issue on one of our other cars, a Mercedes E55. Thought I'd be clever and sourced a secondhand replacement off eBay for £38 and left key in ignition to reprogram itself. No joy. Repeatedly no joy.

Had to be a new key at over £200.

Compared to some of the other problems on a RR, a new key is a cheap and quick fix.

Hope I'm proved wrong, though. Si. <This is my name.

i take it its a flip key...
get one of these, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Key-Shell-Case-C...500wt_1203
then take a blade to your remote and cut apart, its not that hard, after you have it open you can remove the circuit board and replace the batt,it will need to be soldered but again its not a hard job, total cost will be around £25.00 what do you have to lose, shame you only have the one key as i would of done it for you... V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

thank you for the offer, as you say if we could find the spare it would be the way to go! The central locking works if you use the blade in the lock so I guess its not the central locking module?

Is it the same cost to convert a fully functional BMW style key to the flip key?. I have a 2007 MY but was unfortunate enough to get a "lets use the old stock first" old style set of keys.

I have 2 so would be keen to see about converting?

I had a very similar problem to you. Whereby the one key I had worked fine. The other one would not even flash with a red light once pressed & I got quoted £280 for a replacement from the dealers. Therefore I took both my keys to a Car Locksmith Specialist who reprogrammeed my key for £25 & presto both keys work like brand new.
Thumbs Up

hi you would need to get your hands on a bmw diamond key and see if you can code it to open and close the doors, as its a late car i am not sure what rf module it has, but if the diamond key works then you can convert it V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
