Well so far so good so I think it must have been. Thank you for the help.

I have noticed the ignition barrel seems to be sticking now though, as if the steering lock is on, any idea why its doing this?

It started doing it when the battery died the other night and I assumed it was due to the low power but its still sticking now. It does turn but it takes a bit of trying to get it to turn to I can start the engine.

Hi to one and all
I had a strange one last night. Car has been running well, with no problems. About two hours after shutting down engine last night, the alarm went off and brake lights were on...! Disarmed the alarm and tried to start car and key would not turn. Immediately thought of battery, which is only 12 months old. Car would then not lock on key fob. Thought it might be an immobiliser problem. So disconnected battery, left for an hour. Reconnected, still no joy. This time brake lights stayed on. So thought I would disconnect battery and leave till morning.
This morning, I reconnected and car started first time, left car running in case it was battery as I wanted to take it to have voltage checked. After half hour turned engine off and after couple of minutes, I had the same scenario as last night.
Disconnected battery again and left for couple of hours. After reconnecting it started and I took it straight to gargle for check over.
They checked battery ,it was all good showing 12.6 volt, checked charging And that was fine also. Car his been fine since with no return of the problems of last night.....!

Does anyone have any ideas what might have caused this ????

Cheers

Nige

UPDATE

After fitting the new battery all has been well until tonight. I started it to leave my parents and the battery light is on, staying on all the way home (about 3 miles).

The battery light never came on last time i had the problems but LR dealer said that a tell tale sign of an alternator fault would be the battery light illuminating, does that sound right?.

I have checked in the hidden signals menu and when i start it the voltage reads 11.0v then fully loading it by turning everything on it slowly drops to 9.5v. I turned all electrical items off and the voltage immediately rose back to 11.0 and stayed constant at that voltage.

It sounds like a charge problem. My last 3 cars have all had charge problems, 2 of them Range Rovers Censored

If the battery light is on when you are driving the alternator isn't charging the battery due to faulty diodes.
If you keep driving the battery will discharge and you will stop. Smile
Two choices, find a good auto electrician and have diodes changed or go for a new / reconditioned alternator.
Idea Before you do the above have you checked the alternator drive belt for condition and tightness. You may be lucky.

I wouldn't know how to check the belt, I'm pretty useless mechanically or electrically. If you have guidelines on how to i will certainly check it.

Will an alternator from other L322 models work OK or must it be the specific TDV8 one?.

You'd be better having someone check the alternator belt.
The alternator is tdv8 specific.

Fingers crossed its the belt?

Strange how the battery light hasn't been on until now, even when the battery died a week or so ago?

Carlos, sorry I've not seen this thread before.

I have had exactly the same problems as you describe, even the same build up of faults, ability to restart after a while etc etc and have even replaced the battery which fixed it for a short while.

Having had LR assist out to check, my car is currently in the garage having the alternator replaced. He didn't think the battery was at fault (although I know from previous experience a knackered alternator can lead to a knackered battery as well) - the garage is doing a recharge /discharge test on my old battery to check.

Battery flat this morning so it would only unlock etc, not start.

Spoke to local LR dealer and they want £590 to replace the unit.

A local auto electrician said he can fix it but didn't know what part I'd need to bew able to price it which makes me think he isn't aware of what's involved.

Range Rover ownership is becoming frustrating, for the 6th time LOL
