Turbo whistle

Sorry as I am sure its been covered before.
The waste gate on the turbo on my TD6 seems to open quite early leading to a whistle ( quiet normally) I dont know if the fault is the wastegate, manifold pressure sensor opening the wastegate or its just on its way out. seems to drive fine with plenty of power, I do run a plug in box but it whistled before it was fitted.
I have read somewhere that the turbo is variable and it sticks leading to the wastegate opening on overboost if the pressure gets to high. or is the wastegate adjustable????

appreciate any comments advice

Thanks Mine was a blue one! Smile

If it helps, the turbo on our FF has 'whistled' since the car was new, I have never thought of it as a problem, to be honest I quite like it Smile 12MY Black FF VSE

You can stop it by decelerating slower, ie letting of the loud pedal slower as the boost then kills itself off and thus there is no excess pressure to bleed off, for the dumpvalve type sound.

For the waste gate one same theory, less go, more slow, less noise Smile I dont often get a woosh unless i have tried to squeeze into fast flowing traffic at low speeds. anything above 40 and the road/tyre noise drowns it out anyway Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

No idea on the wastegate, but my car whistles when you take your foot of the accelerator. It is normal for a turbo on this model. Tom

Thanks chaps but whistle is under power it stops on the overrun when easing off at a steady 60 you can just hear it as if the dumpvalve is just passing a bit?? Mine was a blue one! Smile

Thanks Scarey/Stan or is it Scarey stan?
Smile
I replaced the crankcase filter when I bought the car (along with everything else that was funnily not included in the full service the garage was going to do when I bought it like air, pollen, and fuel filters)and it did not affect the whistle. it just always done it, not got worse over 7k miles so might just be somthing it does would not be happy if it did it from new on a £60k vehicle.
I just think if its bleeding air then its bleeding power? but i think there is an optimum manifold pressure? Has anybody else heard about the vanes sticking on the variable turbo or am i making it up?
or can you adjust the dumpvalve?
not sure how its controlled and rave seems a bit vague
