The toothbrush and WD40 method would work, but you may find the toothbrush bristles too short to get right into the hinge mechanism.

Best thing is petrol or white spirit on a cloth then some silicone grease which should coat it and work its way back into the joint FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

A liberal dosing of WD40 should stop the squeaking, but silicone grease for longer lasting protection .

KY Jelly is apparently good for better penetration

silicon lubricant is the best , available at all good motorist centres.... ... - .- -.
