FBH for idiots (well, this idiot)

Right back to basics I'm afraid, I know its a type of pre-heater fitted to use on cold mornings. Couple of questions:
I drive a 2003 '53 plate TD6 Vogue

How do i switch it on/off?
How do i know if its working?
What does it heat up, the fuel or the cabin? Embarassed

Plllllllllllllease dont shoot me down guys

Theres probably a full write up somewhere here but basically it can be switched on by remote (if you have one) or by the screen. On settings there is an option to go to 'timed climate' where you can programme a timer like on central heating ie on at a certain time maybe half an hour before you need car in morning, and then off similarly. Or you can press 'manual' which switches it on immediately. It heats the coolant and hence the air coming into the cabin. What I dont know as I rarely use mine even in the chilly climes up here is what areas of the car it heats ie does it blow air through the vents as set up when the car is switched off or somewhere else.
It also comes on anyway at colder temperatures when the car is started contributing to the fast warm up of the coolant compared to most which helps with emissions.
I believe all L322 Vogues have it fitted though some dont have the remote receiver module in the boot.
Hope that helps before someone produces the full details
T

Hi Mr Blonde and Tom...

Couple of points...

ALL TD6's have the FBH fitted

If the outside temp is less than 3 degrees it will fire up when you start the car to aid warming the engine quicker to make it more efficient and help reduce wear due to cold oils etc..

If enabled on your car - You can set something called Aux Heating (Big topic on here). This will use the FBH to first warm the engine coolant and then after 10 mins or so will open the interior vents and use some of that heat to warm the cars interior. This can be set either via the On Board computer or switched on immediately by the remote (if you have one) and all done without starting the car. It can lead to flat batteries if you do not drive far once you've had the Aux heating on though. (Another big topic on here)

Don't get confused with Aux Ventilation - this only circulates the air in your cabin in hot weather to help cool it down (although not sure it really works that well) Does not use the FBH for this function.

Hope that helps Ash

So much has been written on here about the Fuel Burning Heater, its silly to repeat it.

Do a search and just type in this exactly in the search box

"FBH"

including the quote marks, then make a coffee and read through all the FBH threads, there's loads! Discovery 4 HSE
