Non working service indicator 2006 FF S/C

I bought my S/C from new, March 2006 and have discovered that the service indicator has never worked! How you may ask did I only just work that out? Well the services to date were carried out as the car was in for rectification so i never knew it was not working. I have been waiting from the 28,000k service for it to come on and have now queried it with the dealer. They have fessed up that it was never installed? I think it should have been booted up as part of the PDI. Now the problem is I wanted to chop it in with the dealer for a TDV8 and they dont want to buy it as its not got a full service history. As you may imagine , i am spitting teeth. Thoughts ? Have taken it up with LR themselves but as yet they have not offered me a New TDV8 as compensation Very Happy

Apparently, and the car is still with the dealer so I have not seen it yet, they tell me that its on the low part of the dashpod and shows for about 10 seconds when you first start the car. Its all new to me, but it clearly states in the book thats it will come on to tell you when the car needs a service. Doesnt sound like you have it either? 2006 S/C owned from new. well , when I get the car back I can photo it and post I hope. But the dealership have called me and said that they have managed to boot the thing up. My guess, is that this was a new thing on the 2006 model year and the dealership didnt know it was there, so didnt switch it on when they did the PDI. Will report back 2006 S/C owned from new. The service indicator is a message in the LCD screen, it pops up when the car has reached 1000 miles prior to the next service and tells you what type it is due to be.

It's a software thing, not a device you can look at. In my TD6 I had it independently serviced once by a local garage who assured me that they could reset the indicator and they ballsed it up, so it continued counting (i.e. Service due in -6,500 miles etc)

In the end I managed to get them to agree to pay for a LR Dealer's time to reset it with the software. it took about 6 hours work (God knows why).

IMO, it sounds like they need to hook it up to their systems and install the part that's missing and reset it. Probably a full ECU flash, who knows. You shouldn't be paying for it though. Discovery 4 HSE

i am not paying for the flash up, I am expected to take the knock on the depreciation of the car as its not got a full service history. They, the dealership and LR themselves are squealing like hell and saying the sent me reminders for service via text. I am sticking to my guns and saying that I was waiting for the non existent indicator to come on which is why it was not serviced past 28,000 . The are scratching their heads here as they dont know what their liability is, and nor do I to be honest. Interesting though. 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. So what service history does it have so far? How far past 28K has it gone?

It may be worth contacting a solicitor and getting a legal point of view, it's unlikely you'll need to battle it out but it will show LR that you are deadly serious. You need compensating in some way I'd imagine, or get them to give you something for goodwill, like free servicing from now on etc. Discovery 4 HSE

its currently at 53k. I discovered this problem at 46k and tried to get it sorted then. I dont use it a lot and had sort of thought that the low use meant it was not due. Dealer refused to acknowledge responsibility so I went off in a huff back then. I should have had it done, but wanted to collect my thoughts and to be honest the mileage has crept up to 53k now., It is part my fault for not realising earlier that there was a problem, but I am dammed if I am going to let LR off the hook on this one. 2006 S/C owned from new. So has it not been serviced from 28-53k miles? How long is that? Surely you would expect to put it in for annual service regardless of mileage?

However, I think Land Rover should chop it in anyway, they should take some responsibility. Are they not willing to take it at all now? Or just at a lower value? Have they given a px value? You would probably get better money for it selling it on here, or to Gary Elliott. Thumbs Up Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Would it help if I offered £500 for the car - just as a favour?

so , semi success. The dealership have fitted all new rear brakes free of charge, and LR have offered me a hefty discount off the next RR. I need to find out what that means, meanwhile. I am thinking of a short term trade in to a 4.4 TDV8. We will seel. Keep you posted 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

I had another look at the Faultmate vehicle software settings pages and the service interval indicator can be enabled and disabled. Sounds like it was disabled on your car (accidentally or not) and that can only be done with the T4 Testbook or a Faultmate and maybe one of the others (don't know about their specs). So in other words, the dealer is responsible as they are the only ones that are supposed to have the capability to switch it on and off and also they are supposed to check these things when doing a service. My guess is that it was accidentally disabled during a normal service, hence a dealer mistake.
I did a print screen for those who are interested, please PM if you want me to send it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

My last 4.2S/C never had the service indicator come on. Ever. I always bottled and called the dealer myself. Always mentioned that the service indicator never came on. I presume they never reset it.
