I am trying to find out where the connector is in my car for a bluetooth pairing button.

My car does not have a phone in it, but is pre-wired.

I assume that if you put a ULF kit etc in, you use the connector that is for the eject box, to some sort of pairing button ?

Where is this connector, and what do you use for a pairing button ?

It all depends on your wiring loom - assuming you have a pre-touchscreen car

If you have the FFRR factory wiring loom then the 54pin black plug will need to be "modified" to suit the BMW Bluetooth ULF - The wires for the pairing button can just be connected to a momentary switch in the rear for the pairing process rather than fitting the eject box in the centre arm rest.

If you have bought a "converted" or "modified" loom to connect to the FFRR 54pin black plug then it should already have a pairing button or pair of identifiable wires in it!

Yes, mine is a 2003, so pre-touchscreen.

The car was pre-wired for telephone at the factory, so I will need to rewire the 54 pin.

It's just the pairing button I'm not sure about..........

Where can I obtain the modified 54 pin loom adapters, with the pairing button ?

I thought the pairing process involved pressing the button whilst turning on the ignition or something. You would need 2 people to pair phones, as the button would need to be pressed in the boot........at the same time as the key being turned.

Am I understanding this correctly ?

Is the pairing button wired in to the "Eject Box" connections ?

Does anyone know if the pins in the infamous 54 pin connector actually pull out with the wires on ?

I am thinking of getting a new connector from Audi and just moving the required ones across in the correct place........

Yes they do! Well you can't just pull on the wires, you have to remove the black outer casing and then using a small screwdriver you can press down on the locking section of the pin itself and then give a gentle 'tug'. You can then swap the wires to their new location or remove them. When reinserting them they should click back into place

Have just got back from the Audi dealer - the connector will be with me on Saturday.

The Audi part number is 4E0 972 144 if anyone is interested. A 54 pin female housing.

£2.46 including VAT.

If you don't have to resolder and join up wires, this job seems a little less daunting.

Historically, if you want all the pins joining together with a soldering iron - I'm your man !!

Folks, slowly going mad here....spent over 2 hours looking at the 54 pin connector diaagrams.

A couple of queries ;

I have seen 2 charts will differing wiring - does the old pin 52 go to 21 or 19 ? and 53 will go to whats left.

19 is microphone negative, 21 is microphone shield.

L322.com changed their minds and swapped them over.

...and the piggin pairing button, I deduced that to do the button in the boot you need to put pin 32 to ground (after the rewire).

Can you use "any" ground, as the ground from the eject box is not connected to the ULF.......

I've just got the Bluetooth working, so to complete this thread for others, you need to short pin 32 from the ULF to ground to simulate the pairing button.

The ground pin on the ULF is pin 36, so you can use that if you don't want a switch in the front of the car.

The brown/black wire on pin 36 is the ground for the unit, so you will need to have it connected to the ULF as well when you short pin 32.

I put a "chocolate block" connector in the brown wire (don't know what the correct electrical term is !!) so I could just touch the wire from pin 32 to it, as required, without losing the ground connection to the ULF, if you see what I mean. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
