[SOLVED!] '02 Non Touch Screen too Dim with Video Input?

Can't find a physical fix for this with the kit I have attached so does anyone know about anything internal?

'02 Non touch screen, video input from a PC (using RGB convertor) via the Reverse Camera input on top of the TV module.

Screen output is very dim, can hardly see it let alone read what is on the screen. Other people who have done this mod seem to have a nice bright screen. Pumping the same output to the rear screens (not OEM) I get a nice bright picture so it's not the input, something is happening between the TV module and the screen.

Normal OEM screen output is fine, as it the television picture (although this is not as bright as the normal OBC screen)

Day/Night setting doesn't seem to make any difference to the OBC screen so wonder if this has anything to do with it?

I'll do some pictures if it helps... .

I've just found this over on the bimmernav forums

http://www.bimmernav.com/Advanced_Programm...splay.html

Do we also have this secret menu:

Turn ignition to Stage 2 or start the car
Press Menu
Choose Set and press BM knob to go to Settings
Press Menu and Hold until secret menu appears
Play.....Wink

Also seems that the Day/Night function was killed off by BMW for the MkIII as it didn't work? .

It's there on an FFRR too!

Just to reiterate:

Can it be added to the wiki?

(Suggest add the bimmernav link too as this has a good howto on all the functions) .

Might be worth checking if the converter is definitely RGB & not YUV (or vice versa) as this can cause issues if you're just working on the basis of 3 coloured phono connectors.
Not RR specific just AV101....hope it helps

@ Dogman

I get no picture on any screens if I put RGB OUT (YUV OUTPUT) to ON. But thanks for the thought.

But anyway, who needs a screen when you have linux on your carpc and android on your smartphone. Just upgraded the kernel on the pc and can connect the pc to my HTC Legend via wifi (phone as wifi hotspot) and can control the PC using the Android XBMC remote app!

This is cool because I can pass it to my kids in the back or front seat passenger and they can select the music/video etc.

Having accessed the service menu on the Bord Monitor I have turned the Brightness right up, so will have to test carpc like that now. .

@ daveo

Not yet, hopefully tonight if it stops raining will get a chance to try it out.

@ scarey

Yes, in principle, but trying to remain OEM up front. Don't want to have to fiddle about with putting things out of sight after every trip. There are opportunities to use a tablet as a touch screen interface/remote. Could do with one of those screens that pops out from a slot, but nowhere to put it! But running the right version of android demands extra cash!

I am quite likely to get carried away and write my own front end that is more visible/accessible on screen Wink .
