Hard work is not easy

So it's not a FFRR but I thought I would post some pictures of the Audi now that I have started detailing it. The paintwork is very good, only some slight marks from washing but I have to say it is the toughest clear coat I have ever tried to polish up.

This is the general condition, nothing serious but hard work to rectify

After many hours of cutting back and polishing this is the stage I'm at now

Yeah, a lot of the Audi and Merc clear is the new ceramic based stuff, hard as granite. Menzerna pads & polish on a Makita soon sees to it. Thumbs Up

Oh, nice work BTW.

Dom.

Some good results there mate.

My A6 & A4 were the same, took bloody ages to get any form of result on them, A6 especially, my parents mk5 golf seems to be the opposite though. Mind you, only gave the n/s/r 1/4 a quick once over to remove some scratches.

This Merc is pretty tough too although I haven't been too daring with it, only a few passes with some 3m ultrafina. 2006 Mercedes CLS

But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

Remind me never to bring my RR round to yours .... You'd have a fit at the marks on it!

The paint job on mine is crap. V8 or else ...

Finally managed to finish the driver side of the car, so took it out to turn it around and managed to grab a few shots in daylight

This is the passenger side which I am about to start on, oddly enough it seems to have fared better than the other side

I have always wondered something. When you do a full detailing job like this using clay and polishing everything til it looks as stunning as you have managed does it last like that for a long time? When you re do it does it not take as long?
Dont get me wrong it looks fabulous but is it more time efficient than it looks to someone whose car is usually very muddy (Goes with the job!)
Cheers

Well, to be honest, most damage like swirls and holograms are done with a poor wash technique. If a car is muddy and you wash it with a sponge you will pick up the grit contained in the mud and grind it into the paint.

If you use a foam gun and a pressure washer before attacking it with a lambswool washmitt you get rid of 95% of the dirt before you make contact so there is a lot less risk of damage.

Other things to avoid are chamois leathers, especially old ones which have been dropped numerous times. Sponges of any kind, brushes (they're really unkind to paint) and harsh chemicals. If you wouldn't use it on your old boy then don't use it on the car. Wink

I get mine muddy, usually by going greenlaning. It has very little in the way of swirlies though and this is all due to me looking after it. It was quite shocking when I first got it mind you. Several goes with the kit and she looks nice now. Through the winter I only ever use the PW, never a full on wash. Just enough to keep the salt off the underneath.

HTH. Dom.

Great work John.... Bow down

Need to get my car sorted after it lost an argument with a Bus and then a Tipper truck....

Bodyshops are great at leaving buffer trails on the paintwork, just a pity I can't get my car in my garage...

Roll on spring.... Laughing
