TD6 wont start, asking for code.... Help

New to the Forum but not FFRRs. My 2004 model TD6 refuses to start, when you get to position 2 in the ignition the dash appears with "CODE ----". I have tried the advice in the manual, i.e. disconnect battery for 1 minute, also I am unsure how to input a code as it has no satNav, also spoke to Land Rover and Dealer who assure me this model does not have a code!!!! Can anyone help as it just sits on the drive looking enviously at the Defender which is now doing all the work Very Happy Thanks in advance

should'nt need a code to start , even the radio doesnt require one..

try the other key as yours might be faulty..

how old is the battery? over 3 years and you might be looking at buying a new one.. ... - .- -.

thanks for replies, would key battery account for 'CODE ----' ? Car battery is fully charged, everything works apart from starting!! Have spoken to LR and dealer who have no suggestions apart from 'bring it in' !

On a td6 the obd has a code function that is an "engine interlock code".
Similar to a computer password, but the ignition is inhibited.
I presume you haven't set a 4 digit code, you will therefore need to act as though you have forgotten the code and deactivate it.
Goto page 9 of your audio, tv and navigation handbook.
It tells you emergency deactivation is possible but doesn't tell you how.
Mabye if you point your dealer in the right direction he will advise you, but don't hold your breath. Smile
Presumably LR will know.
I'm interested to know how you can "bring it in" if you can't start it. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

How did you do the deactivation?
You could try disconnecting both battery terminals and touching the +ve and -ve cable ends together for a few seconds.

In the manual under computer controls it says to deactivate interlock code - 'disconnect earth terminal for 1 minute then reconnect, the alarm will sound and must be deactivated with remote.' This apparently resets something!! However not worked for me, I know it must be something simple but have posted on numerous Forums and nobody seems to have encountered it before, can't be the only FFRR with this issue, been sitting now for 8 months as I work in the Channel Islands and its looking a bit sad Big Cry

I'm wondering if your problem is linked to the immobiliser function and if so whether it could be cleared with one of the diagnostic tools available, Whereabouts in Scotland are you?

Unfortunately you are a bit too far from me, the closest I get is the M74 and then over to Edinburgh every now and again.
It might be worth asking if anybody local to you in possession of an RAC, IID or Hawkeye tool would be willing to help out.

Thanks
, I put a new battery in key this morning and have tried the switch on/off hold unlock and press lock 3 times however is not recognising key at all, think this may be the problem. As far as I can gather its an immobiliser issue. Do you know of any way of bypassing it? Wife has 'misplaced ' the spare.

Sorry I don't know how to bypass it, bit more complicated than a Disco that I could do. Wink Smile
