Intermittent starting problem

Hi all
Have a starting problem where sometimes I will go to start her and she is fine but other times there is nothing there and I have to turn the key on and off several times before she starts. I have read somewhere on the forum about this problem with others but cannot find it now. Any ideas?

Try wiggling the ignition barrel when the key is in, could be that it's worn slightly. Could also be a loose connection on the starter motor. 2006 Mercedes CLS

But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

Just had a new lock set so not the ignition barrel.Kept trying it in neutral earlier and it was fine but soon as I have it in park then that's when the problem occurs. As I'm not mechanically minded at all, how will I know if the gear switch wants adjusting

Check your battery earth adn the Pos and neg connector are tight. Mine lost ALL power once when driving along. It was a loose connection to the battery!

Does this happen on first start up or can it happen even after you have driven the car and it's warm? I had this problem and turned out to be fuel pump. Thumbs Up

centre console ..around where the ignition switch is you can see the mechanics...look on the wiki for ''top tips'' and ''key stuck in ignition'' and you'll see how it all looks and what could be lubricated.. ... - .- -.
