Hi everyone,

One of the most nagging issues I have had in my first couple of months of FF ownership has been water ingress in the front cabin. There is a leak which has been dripping down the headliner between the rear view mirror and the interior lights. My driveway is on a slight slope, and on a rainy night if the FF is parked with the nose pointing downhill then I would wake up to find a puddle in the tray just in front of the gearshift. This may or may not have contributed to my last post about the key stuck in the ignition lock, and it certainly isn't doing the electrics any good - I also have a parasitic battery drain which is my next job to fix.

So, with a few days off work I decided that I would get to the bottom of the water leak. My first thoughts were the sunroof drain tubes, but they appeared to be clear and the valve at the bottom between the air reservoir and the body was free. I tried taping up the sunroof and got the hose pipe out, and sure enough the leak was still there.

Next I took out the interior front interior dome lights. This was simply a case of unclipping it all, and undoing two 8mm bolts behind the sunglasses holder. I could then clearly see where the drip was coming in:



It was dripping between the body-in-white and the windscreen. So next I taped up the top edge of the windscreen.

I narrowed the leak down to the top corner of the windscreen on the passenger side, just where the gutter comes down.



Sure enough, large amounds of gaffer tape underneath the plastic gutter strip have temporarily fixed the leak. For a more permanent fix, I am going to try some sikaflex around the joint. Or I could just hope that my wife picks up a severe stone chip over the next few weeks so that we can get a replacement windscreen![/img]

If you want to go down the route of a new windscreen why wait until you collect a stone chip.........Hammers were invented for a reason

You'd be surprised how hard it is to crack a windscreen with a hammer, particularly when Autoglass are on their way to replace it.

Last time I spoke about this to my Autoglass guy he told me that it didn't actually need to be broken before it could be replaced, as long as you 'think' it's broken that was good enough for him

The 2nd photo whichhead already increased in size, have you up loaded another, of was I suffering from an iPhone problem?

Have you completely ruled out the sunroof drain tubes? This is what happened to me with the water ingress in the exact same place.

Have you tried opening the sunroof fully and pouring water down each of the drain tubes to ensure they flow freely?

Thanks for the suggestion. The sunroof drain tubes are running free. I poured water in the top and there was a healthy flow through to the floor. 2005 FFRR Td6 Vogue

You can smash the windscreen from the inside out using less than a tenth of the force you need from the outside inwards... Due to the curvature of the glass there is little strength if you hit the inside... Many lorry screens get broke when they jack the cab up to gain access to the engine...

Not that I'm condoning insurance windscreen fraud

Any help appreciated folks?

I removed the overhead lights/sunglass holder as per nik's photos, expected to find some sign of water tracks, soggy felt etc but it was dry?? Spent about 20 minutes with a hose over the top of the windscreen & sunroof (front & back) but couldn't replicate the leak. So put back together, next day rain starts and water dripping in again down the windscreen about a drop every 15 seconds...... any clues?

If it's had a replacement screen (and often on old original screens) there can be rust that creeps under the bonding agent for the screen and causes it to lift, giving a leak... Or it hasn't been fitted properly and lifted....

Best thing to sort it is do what has been suggested above and get the screen replaced and swallow the excess.... Pete

Had car since new & it's only 4 & a bit years old so original screen & I don't think it would be rusty? Would rather not replace the screen until it's confirmed as the culprit!
