My TD6 is noisy (even noisier than a normal TD6 )

I would describe it has sounding like a tappet noise, and worse or more noticeable when cold.

Also very loud tap / rattle if you remove the oil filler cap when ticking over...

Has anyone had trouble with sticking hydraulic lifters, does it need head off to remove them ??

Or any other ideas

Are you sure it isn't just diesel knock

Yes the TD6 engine does sound odd when you remove the oil filer cap, it's normal

Mine sounded very noisy last couple of days, but once up to speed nice and quiet. It just sounds "bad" from 0-45 and makes me wince as I accelerate

On other days it seems to get from 0-45 without pain  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

In the cold weather diesel knock is a lot louder

my TD6 diesel knock is bad in the cold weather, sounds like a tractor, but if i start her up and let her idle for 5 or 10 minutes to warm up she quietens right down

Neighbourhood cats prefer this type of driving too as they can still sit on the bonnet and warm up every sodding morning
