From a Touareg to a FFRR?

Hi guys! I am french, 34 years old, and looking for a FFRR to buy in a vogue version. It's been a long time I want to buy one, but with everything I read about the reliability of them I never come to the decision of buying one! My actual car is a Touareg v6 tdi 3.0 224 cv full options and I really like it, brilliant engine. But each time I cross a FFRR on the road or in a car park, I always come to say: I want one! Now, I hope I will get a good one and not a "friday car" but I will take the risk! I was about to buy a ML 320 cdi but I was disapointed of the inside despite a very good engine. Anyway, I would like to know if anyone here come from a Touareg to a FFRR or from a FFRR to a Touareg, and what is your impressions? Even if my Touareg is very easy to sell here, I could just get a td6 because the tdv8 stay very expensive down here, nothing under 32/33000 € without a huge mileage! Waiting for your views! Ludo

Never driven or owned a Touareg, but a few questions for you to ponder:

1. Do you feel you could always do better than a Touareg?

2. Do you get a real feeling of class / sense of occasion driving a Touareg?

3. Do you own a Touareg and know what you'll replace it with?

You'll have very different answers owning a FFRR. That's why you should own one. Si. <This is my name.

I've never driven a Touareg but I did think about buying one before eventually going for the FFRR. The biggest difference between the two will be performance if it's the TD6 you're looking at. The FFRR will be quite slow by comparison with the Touareg because the FFRR is both heavier and has less power. You might be disappointed, depending on your driving style. The other thing you'll notice is that the electronics are from a different age. I came from a 2004 Audi A4 (so basically the same electronics as the Touareg) and by comparison my 2003 FFRR is - shall we say - looking a bit "old". Who the heck has a user interface with "Main Menu" written at the top any more these days!

Still, they're a nice place to be if you're not bothered about the performance or how some of the gadgets work.

I don't think you will like the TD6 FFRR after the Touareg. A TDV8 FFRR is a very different beast, 50% more power and the 6 speed box is great. If you can streach to the TDV8 then I doubt you will be dissapointed 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

I considered a touraeg before going for a vogue. Total different class and size. If you don't mind being slower in a td6 but you more presence when on the road, then get one. If you can go for tdv8 it is much better! Thumbs Up

Tried the V10 Touareg. Bonkers, I loved it, but the notion of a diesel that only did 15mpg was too much. Beautiful interior. Bit ugly outside, fixed with the new model IMHO. Fabulous noise. Graham

Like Graham above I also drove the Touareg V10 and if the interior would have been finished off better I would have got I regardless of a diesel only doing 16mpg

So best save your pennies or francs for a TDV8. Thumbs Up

Thank your for your answers and views. I have to try next week a td6 remapped, considering all the topics on this forum, I hope it should powerfull enough for my driving. If not, I will wait a little bit more and go for a tdv8.
You cannot drive fast anymore in France, so I am more concerning by the torque than the speed. Anyone know how many seconds from 0 to 100 km/h for a td6 remapped? Thank again. Ludo

The standard TD6 is 12.7 seconds to 100km/h (actually the 60mph time) according to a quick web search. Also, a superchips remap increases the peak power by 16%, so a rough fag packet calculation suggests the 0-60 time should drop to around 10-11 seconds. It really depends on the resultant power curve though after the remap.

If you look on the superchips website there is a road test of a TD6 remap which gives some performance figures. They state the 0-60 as being worse at 13.6 seconds in standard tune. Unfortunately they don't directly state the new 0-60 time but you can infer something by adding up the 0-30, 30-50 and 50-70 times (taking about half of the latter, say). That also adds up to 10 seconds.

I think your Touareg is in the 7.5-8.0s bracket, so it'll seem quite a lot slower I imagine, even after a remap.

JE chipped TD6, just under 10 seconds 0-60. TDV8 3.6 std tune is around 8.6. I have all the figures done from real world driving on a private road right up to 100 for both vehicles in 10mph increments, in both Sport and Std mode. The Sport mode becomes virtually redundant after a remap, its quicker not using it as the higher gearing is more in touch with the power output.

I have found a td6 remapped 2005 for 22 000 € ( 25 000 pounds ) and a tdv8 for 29 000 € ( 34 000 pounds ), the td6 is a vogue version and the tdv8 is not. Td6 is 100 000 km and the tdv8 is 180 000 km!
I gonna try both on thirsday if the snow gone, and take a decision. I prefer to get a vogue than an hse version.
Affaire à suivre! Ludo
